Not Being Able To Eat

Recommended Posts

I just had my second fill this past Monday. I can not eat anything, if I try to eat then I just keep throwing up. After throwing up a few times it becomes more like foam. Is there anything that anyone can suggest to do or eat? Is anyone else having this problem?

sounds like you are too tight. should probably get an unfill. i was too tight for 2 weeks and finally ended up in the emergency room for an unfill. i dropped 9 pounds in those 2 weeks. i had energy and could work out, but couldnt even keep liquids down. this is very dangerous. so please go see your doc. swelling is normal for about 2 days but anything longer than that is too much.

take care.

Thanks! I can keep liquids down. I find myself wondering if I made the right choice.

Not just keeping liquids down, is there a problem with them going down.

Right after a fill, you can be swollen. That's why you should have nothing but liquids for a day or two after.

And lastly, when your band starts to have some restriction, you have to learn to eat a whole new way. Stay with very soft foods, small bites ans swallows, wait enough time between. Eat like a bird!

Then see if that helps. Also, if you drink while eating you will definitely get what your describing!

The thing is if your band is tight enough to restrict you to soft foods you want to be extremely careful to only eat to satisfied, not full or you will end up stretching out your pouch. If youre keeping liquids down but not food, you need an unfill.

Just go in for a small unfill, don't let them take it all out. I have gone in for a fill and had a half cc put in and then had to go back and have .2 cc taken out so I was still a head by .3 cc and did fine. I always tell them if they are going to take out more I will leave and they always do what they say. So just ask them to take out a tiny bit and you will still have more than what you had before the fill. A tiny bit can be the difference like night and day. Good luck!

I agree with B-52 stay with soft foods for a while and see if that helps..

This very reason is why my surgeon recommends, or demands, that his patients have Clear Liquids for 2 days, and full liquids for 2 days. You should stay on liquids until your swelling goes down, maybe another 2 days. Everytime you slime, or pb, you get swelling, so, next time you try eat, you again are swollen. Take it easy! Karen

I know someone who left her band too tight for too long and it eroded. If you can't eat, that is too tight. Consider going for a tiny unfill. Good luck!

By this time you should be able to eat solids. What is a big fill? Did they remove all the fill to check the level then put it back in? That can cause more swelling.

Getting a slight unfill is not admitting defeat. I've been overfilled, it sucks. If you cannot eat solid Protein, call your surgeon for an unfill. If you are getting liquids down and are hydrated, it can wait through the weekend. If not, call his office # and talk to the service. There should be someone on call.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
