Feel Full But Also Feel Hungry. Is This Normal?

Recommended Posts

Okay...just had my first post-op fill about 2 days ago. Doc said I could start mushies this morning. 1/2 cup of scrambled eggs made my stomach feel full, but I also still had that hungry, "growling" feeling...yet I knew I couldn't take another bite. Is this normal? Is it all in my head? Like maybe my head hasn't caught up to the restriction yet?

This happens to me all the time. I attribute it to the absence of lots of fats from my diet. I eat mainly Proteins, fruits and vegetables. I don't much in the way of carbs for the most part. I think that carbs and fatty foods are what causes this type of feeling.

I asked my dr about that a few weeks ago and he said to just ignore it. The food hasn't traveled to your lower stomach is all. My kids think its funny when my tummy talks to them LOL.

Good luck to you =0)

I have to remember that its not just my mind that is going through alot its my stomach as well. The retraining is hand in hand for both and when I eat I have to take both into account. Its not easy right now, I'm the first today admit it (today) Im like everyone else, I don't want to fail, or think that I've wasted everyones time and money on a failure. I can see if I was 6-9 months out but Im barely 3 weeks out, what a wimp I am.. but I feel so much better after venting and reading on here for answers.. I hope you do too.

Yes Bert...I feel the same way! I've been on an emotional roller-coast since my surgery. Thank God there are so many people willing to share their stories and offer help and support! Good luck and blessings to you!

I always thought my stomach growling meant I was physically hungry, but it's not, because my stomach is always making noises! I know when I'm hungry when I get dizzy or have a headache. If anything, I make sure to eat every 5 hours and keep my calorie intake ~1000 cals a day (1000-1100)

In the 13 months I have been banded, I have never really had that full feeling. To me, it is more a lack of interest in food. Even when I am eating a meal, I usually just stop because I'm not interested, I'm not enjoying it, or something like that.

Disinterest is a good way to put it. Hadn't been able to put a label on it. Now I can. :)

It's the same feeling you get when you stand here with fridge door wide open, and even though there is plenty there, nothing looks good!

So you go and sit down and say the heck with it.

I've experienced feeling full up top but still hungry down lower in my belly. I've put it down to the food not passing down there yet. If I distract myself for 20 minutes, it goes away. :)
