Post Op Supplies List

Recommended Posts

I got my surgery date yesterday .... I want to make a list of items I'll need on hand. Could you guys help out pls? This is what I have so far:

Gas X strips

chicken Broth/Stock

sugar free Jello

sugar free Ice Pops

Heating pad (?)

Ice packs (for swelling?)

Low Carb Protein shakes

liquid Tylenol

Antibacterial Soap

Pill splitter/crusher

Beef broth

Veggie broth

Wrap Around Girdle

G2 Gatorade

chewable Vitamins

Chewable Pepcid

Peppermint Tea

Crystal Light

Lipton Cream of chicken

Chicken noodle Soup (and strainer)

Pillow (for ride home)

Do I need anything else to keep me occupied for the week that I'm at home from work?

Your Doctor might supply the Velcro wrap around for your waiste. So if you buy one, don't open it if you get one, and it should be able to be returned.

Puzzle books, DVD's, I had a lot of pillows to help keep me comfy, because I slept in a chair. A bed was to hard to get up from. So if you have a recliner, and allot of pillows, you can be very comfy.

I went to costco today on lunch break, got some applesauce and a BUNCH of Soups. I even found Protein Shakes that are 160 cals, 5 carbs, 1 gram of sugar, 30 g Protein, and they actually taste PRETTY GOOD! 18 shakes for $19.99

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
