You'll need more than just chicken broth...get Beef broth and other kinds of broth because by day 4 or 5 you will want something different. My husband went to the local Chinese place and got me a couple quarts of egg drop Soup that was sooooo good and such a nice change up.

If they dont give you one at the hospital, you might want to try to find one of those girdle type things that wrap around your abdomen. They didnt give me one at the hospital but some people got one. I had to buy one 3 days after surgery and that helped so much.

Good luck!!

I have a Spanx girdle, but I have to pull it on from the bottom up to my chest .... will that work or will that be too painful to put on after surgery?

Bending over and pulling anything on is going to be tough. You want to make sure you either have loose nightgowns or baggy pajama pants. The Spanx girdle wouldnt work. As your nurse or doctors office if they will be giving you one. I think they run about 15.00 to buy one but if they are just going to give you one you might as well take the free one :) The one I have is just a velcro one that goes around my abdomen so it was easy on and off. Also, make sure you have Dial or some other type of antibacterial soap to wash your incisions with after the surgery :)

The Spanx may be too uncomfortable right after surgery. They gave me s medical binder and it has been a great help. I agree on getting beef broth also. I'm only one day post op and I'm kind of over chicken broth. But that's because I had it during my pre-op diet also.

Don't forget a pill splitter/crusher.

I bought mine on ebay. If you see them they are round, and RED in color.

They are stackable parts. Crusher/ Splitter/ Pill Case.

You can stack all or 2 or carry 1 in your purse.

Look into your shakes on line also. They can be cheaper then the stores

Look for chicken Stock it has more flavor than broth. By day 6 I was straining chicken noodle Soup because it tasted so much better than the chicken stock. FYI my doctor said no Vitamins for 2 weeks so ask yours. Have a couch pillow for when you drive home from the hospital. It really helps having a cushion between you and the seat belt. You might want to have some ready to drink Protein Shakes on hand. I really like Premier brand from costco.< /p>

Pick up some Lipton Cup of Soup/ CREAM OF chicken.< /p>

I love the flavor, and sometimes it's just enough.

Talk to your Dr. about chew-able Vitamins, and I chewed Pepcid Complete.

for Heartburn, and it helped allot.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
