Banded 1/26 And I Don't Feel Like It!

Recommended Posts

I'm into week 3 of being banded and I don't feel like I have the band. I don't get my first fill until 6 weeks post op. I haven't had any trouble with the band except I started having a lot of acid reflux/ heartburn which I never had before. I tried Malox, didn't help, now Prilosec and finally relief. Other than that, I can eat anything withou trouble ( I cheated with a couple of bites that's how I know). I have lost 12lbs since the surgery. I don't measure any portions, I am not extremely hungry, I eat less than previously, but not as little as when you get a fill. Does anyone else feel this way?

I know I can tolerate regular food, but I am trying to stick to protocol and follow the diet. I just wish my doctor would do fills at 4 weeks! He did say he will put 4-5cc in on the first fill. I heard a lot of people complaining cause their doctor would only do 1-2cc at a time.

My dr has me keep a food journal for 2 days prior to my fill so he can see how much I can eat. For my first fill, he put in 6.5 cc. I felt the same way as you, like you never had it done. Thats actually a good sign because the swelling is going down and you are getting back to normal. I didnt get my first fill until almost 8 weeks because my port had flipped when I went in at 6 weeks for my fill. I had to have it fixed and he gave me the fill at that time. I go in next week for my 2nd fill, and other than bread or chicken, I can eat anything. I still get VERY hungry at times and I can tell I dont have enough restriction yet. Just be aware, even if you get 4-5 cc for the first fill, it may not be enough. Usually the first fill is the most, then only 1-2 cc (or less) at a time after that. It takes a while to get adjusted to the right spot for you

I'm out 14 months and up until my last fill (8.2 in a 9 cc band now) I was hungry. Could eat a 6 inch sub, a burger, etc....

Give it time. 4cc's to start out with in your band is a good starting point. Sometimes it's not enough for people, and sometimes it's too much! Such an odd thing these bands. wink.png

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
