Can Having No Problems Be A Problem?

Recommended Posts

I know I'm likely paranoid, but I have to ask...

I was banded on February 1st, and from the first moment I woke up after surgery, I've had zero issues with my band. I mean, I had a tiny bit of gas (no pain, and Gas-X dealt with it no problem) and a couple of days of shoulder pain, but to me, those could be issues with any surgery and have nothing to do with the band. I have never had even a hint of nausea, I had no issues with liquids, and with my surgeon's permission, I moved onto purees and mushies 1 week after surgery.

I'm careful to eat small amounts, because I don't want to stretch my pouch, but I really feel like I could eat absolutely anything with no problems. It's willpower that's keeping me off solids rather than my band. My surgeon said that I should be ready for solids by the time I have my first fill, which he suggested would be at my 4 week follow up.

I guess my problem is figuring out in my head how to schedule my transitions to reach that target without rushing things. I had one week on liquids, and Wednesday the 15th will mark 1 week on mushies. I'm thinking that if I do the third week on mushies and what my dietician called "mincies" (finely minced solid Proteins like chicken, or ground turkey) that gives me the last week on soft solids before my fill. Does that sound reasonable? Am I totally over thinking this? ;P

Hey girl, I was banded on the 8th and I'm STARVING. Do you get hunger pains where your stomach just GROWLS? I think you are doing great. Because I only have gotten a little bit of nausea ..and the pain has been getting better. My incisions are healing very well...never bled or anything. I just crave soooo much more than what I'm eating.

Well, I don't have hunger "pains" per se. I get hungry, but it's usually close to mealtime, so I just go ahead and eat. I also allow a snack or two if I need it, so long as it's small volume and fits in my calories (I'm trying to stay around 1000 per day).

It seems to me that the more Protein in what I eat, the more satisfied I am. Also, if I really like the taste of what I eat, I also seem to stay full longer, though that's probably all in my head! I generally try to eat about 1/2 c of food at a time.

Your plan sounds reasonable, I am sure it will be fine! At this stage, usually it is just willpower keeping you from overeating, especially if your band is empty. Keep doing what you're doing but the first fill is usually pretty exciting!

same here. Although I was banded in Nov 2011, I never had anything go wrong and never even took a gas x or anything. Until my 3rd filling. I just had it recently and now am feeling resistance! Today I took my hubby to the airport and we stopped to get a bite to eat. We split it so it was a small amount. I was really hungry and thought I had eaten slowly...wrong. I ate too fast and felt a pain I had never felt! I thought I was dying. My husband thought it was funny because he feels it almost daily and I am always telling him to eat slower and drink slower, etc! I realize that I need to eat BEFORE I get to the point I feel like I'm starving. After the last fill up to this fill I felt hungry all the time pretty much. I told my doctor and he said good. I thought good???!!! He explained that obviously I wasn't overeating and with this fill I would be able to eat a little less and not feel like that. He was right! Today was a learning experience...my advice is to listen to your doctor (unless you feel in your gut that he is really, really wrong), follow your diet and keep up the good work! Oh and don't forget to come here and continue to read and post!!!

Be Grateful ! Don't worry about it ! If something were to go wrong, then I'm sure you would know it....

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
