Confused On Where To Start?

Recommended Posts

18, 5'7, 280 pds. Been reading on here for hours and seeing that you need to be approved. How long does that take? How does it feel getting this done so young? Any regrets?

Firstly you want to find out if weight loss surgery is covered by your insurance at all. It varies by company what they require for approval -- bmi, dietician visits, a certain amt of pre op weight loss, etc. most bariatric programs will have someone who deals with insurance & can help you get more information on whats required both by your provider. Look into an informational session in your area.

Good luck. I can tell you it is so worth the investment. It's a huge commitment for you and a huge financial commintment for your parents. I am fortunate that my mom offered and paid for my surgery. You just have to realize this is a tool and it requires a lot of work on your part. I am thankful for my mom in believing in me enough to give me this greatest gift.

At 18 yrs old you should be enjoying life as much as possible, if your weight is restricting your life then seriously consider getting some form of surgery done. It may be the lapband is best to suit you or one of the other surgeries. Get the information ou need, maybe attend some seminars and then make an informed decision based on whats best for you .. I was self pay too but this was an investment in me and it was worth every penny !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
