I was banded in May 2011 by Dr.Ortiz in TJ Mexico. I can't believe it's been 9 months since surgery. I have only kept the first 10 pounds off since surgery. I have had 2 fills & I'm at 8cc in a 10cc band. I know what I'm doing to sabotage my success...I don't exercise, I eat foods that are "easy" to eat (ice cream, yogurt, pudding, and i have found that if you smother things with ranch dressing & butter & it goes down easier, and chocolate!) I get VERY discouraged but I've realized it's not the band, it's ME! I thought it would be a quick fix, I yo-yo with my weight & I wanted something that would regulate my food, which the band does, but I have gotten used to the loop-hole way of eating around the band. At least I can say I haven't gained. I started to go to the gym about 3 weeks ago & that has helped a lot, now I need to work on the food side. I would like to lose the last 30 pounds by my 1 year anniversary date in May....so I've got 14 weeks...and I hope with the support of this site, and my new found resolution to be rid of the control I let food have over me & realize I'M WORTH THE EFFORT, I will achieve my goal!! Thanks for reading my rant, I hope you all have success on your lap-band journey, cause it ain't easy!!!

I agree, it's definitely not easy! I didn't think it would be, but I did think it would be a bit easier than it has been. I was banded August 2010 and am down 30....I had thought by now I would be at goal. I know the majority of my non-success is my own fault. I had found ways to eat around the band (and motivation has always been my downfall) and I ended up gaining some back...am down again now and am hopefully on my way. I had a fill Thursday and am noticing a big difference. I have 5 cc in a 10cc band (wow, if I was at 8 I wouldn't even be able to swallow!). Good luck! It is still mostly up to us!

I have a lot of respect for you.

Most come on here and say "oh the band doesn't work for me!" and refuse to take any responsibility for their own actions. It's those same people who move onto the Sleeve or Gastric Bypass, continue eating to sabotage, and will then blame the next failed WLS attempt, too.

Honestly, the fact you realize the mistakes you've made is half the battle. It's so hard- people who've never struggled with their weight don't realize it's only maybe 10% physical and 90% mental. The true battle isn't with our bodies, it's with our own minds.

I've heard of others who have gone back to a full liquids diet for a week to get back on track. Others swear by using this "5 day pouch test" to get back on track http://5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html

Best wishes to you, we're in your corner and we believe in you :)

The best thing about this site so far is the individualization of each post and the support from members. I applaud you DeeDeeGirl for your ability to identify the reason and to say "it's my fault" I am going into this with the mindset that the band is a "tool" not a fix for my weight problems. It has helped me so much to read posts about success and backslides. It just reinforces that I have to take responsibility for the process. My surgery is a little less than a month away but I have gotten so much information here and my surgeon encourages the use of this site.

Keep up the good work, everyone here is behind you.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
