Pollyanna12 74 Posted February 11, 2012 hi, I have been getting used to Protein shakes for two meals and eating one meal a day. I am trying to transition slowly to the pre-surgery liquid diet. I have been using one cup of a frozen fruit mix with pineapple, mango peach and strawberries with a cup of low cal cranberry sauce and Protein powder. I also eat a banana and one Greek yogurt for a mid-morning & mid afternoon snack. Dinners are low fat and moderate portion. My question is, I have been getting the worst acid stomach in the evenings! I do not have an ulcer, and no history of heartburn or stomach acid. I thought maybe it could be the pineapple in the fruit mix? But there are only a few little bites in the cup if fruit. Has anyone else had this experience?

readytogoforit 172 Posted February 13, 2012 be sure to mention this to your doc, maybe a hiatal hernia. so many of us had one. if yes, they take care of it with your surgery. you do not want to have heartburn after your surgery.
Pollyanna12 74 Posted February 15, 2012 This morning I used the "mixed" fruit again, and I could immediately taste the acid from the pineapple - I now know the culprit for sure! I will steer clear of that!
honk 780 Posted February 15, 2012 FYI I also used fruit in my shake pre surgery (I was on my own diet not one from the doctor) but post op he said NO fruit.
Natalie van d 0 Posted February 17, 2012 Hello, I am stil waiting on my insurance but have started replacing 1 meal w Protein Shake and the vanillA with the orange Jello sounds delicious. How do you put that together? Thanks !
honk 780 Posted February 17, 2012 My guess is they were referring to Jello powder not a prepared Jello. Pre and post op I added fat/sugar free pudding powder to my shakes to improve the flavor. Also I made "ice cubes" out of sugar free fruit flavored selzer. I would add that to the shake which gave more of a frappe consistancy. Hamilton Beach Individual Serving Blender worked great on the ice ($15 at Walmart/Target); it uses a travel mug as a mixing container. Super convenient.
