Jo_Capp 0 Posted February 11, 2012 My friend is having surgery Tuesday. She is Type One diabetic and is not sure what to eat one the first few days to keep her sugar levels from crashing. Any thoughts?
elcee 3,341 Posted February 11, 2012 I would hope that her Dr has given her specific instructions and if not she should be asking him/her. She won't be eating, she will be drinking - juices, clear broth, Jello then moving onto Protein Shakes, Soups etc. I am not an endocrinologist so do not know if this has to be adapted for a person with type 1 diabetes which is why it is important that she gets professional advice. suzahhn 19 Posted February 12, 2012 I have type one diabetes and if you do a search I've posted my experience and what to expect. In a nutshell, she needs to talk to her endocrinologist. I did a trial run, pretending I had surgery and living off of what I would be drinking so I could get an idea of my sugar levels. The pre op diet will help with that! She will also be dropping her rates significantly and my endo had me running a bit high to avoid lows in the beginning.
