Scary Experience At The Gym Today

Recommended Posts

I've been going to the gym regularly for about 6 weeks now. 3 days a week I do an hour of cardio and the other 3 days I do cardio and then weights with a trainer. My tolerance and endurance have been steadily improving...until today.

I did my cardio with no problems, then met with the trainer. From the get go I knew something was off. I was getting winded way too easily and sweating more than usual. Finally about half an hour in, I was doing some leg extensions with a cable and I felt nauseous and dizzy and the lights started to dim, so I sat down immediately. I have never passed out before, but I assume that's what almost happened. I never want to feel that way again.

My trainer said I need to eat more on training days, because by the time my cardio is done I've already burned off most of the calories I consumed for the day and my body has no fuel left. Makes sense, but I'm afraid that my weight loss will slow down or stop. Am I right to be worried? Anyone else have a similar experience? I'm sure having my TOM isn't helping either but my body's reaction still seemed pretty extreme.

listen to your trainer. you are burning fuel and then you have none left essentially. try some greek yogurt before a workout or a smoothie. you work out more, you burn more, you eat more. you will lose more inches than lbs, there is an almost 2 month "lag time" from inches lost to lbs lost. but it will catch up. i have been told and read that eating more Protein will help you lose the weight as it builds muscle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
