Gallbladder Removal

Recommended Posts

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. It's funny that I'm having all the symptoms but they are more on the left side then the right. My friend who had hers out years ago said that her pain was also on the left side and my doctor said it was not all that uncommon. So I'm having it removed March 2nd. I'm planning on having it done over a 3 day weekend and returning to work on Monday. I just started a new job in December. Luckily I have an awesome boss. He said if I need a couple extra days don't worry about it, take whatever I need.

You should be fine to return on Monday. :) I would have been. I felt so good that I made my own Breakfast the next day (much to the dismay of my family). We all have different experiences with it, but I am sure that you'll do great. :)

Good luck, mine was infected, also. My pain was in the center and caused me to feel like a hot knife was cutting into me. I had my 1st serious attack after my husband cooked a fresh ham. I wanted to die! It hurt so bad; it was a Sunday, and I had to work.

Monday, I went to the dr, and I had emrgency surgery the following Monday. It was, also, infected. I was out for 3 weeks, and when I went back to work, I ended up having a stone in my bile duct, that caused me to end up with pancretitis and jaudice. Don't fool around with it! Good luck, Karen

I too had my gall bladder removed & Gastric Pllication ... Thursday will be 2 weeeks ... I am also banded (2010). I am glad you asked, because I too have no idea what to expect from it being removed. What I can tell is that coffee sends me to the bathroom pretty quickly. From what I have read regarding the gallbladder beign removed is that High FAT foods (which we as WLS people rarely eat) experience trips to the restroom.

I had trouble for a couple of years w my gallbladder. My surgeon was WONDERFUL and took it out during my banding. I took antibiotics for a few days before as a safety precaution too. I can say I am SO happy it is gone! :-)

I had my gallbladder removed pre-band several years ago in emergency surgery. I actually had a stone lodged at the entrance of my stomach, and the pain was intense. It felt like someone overilled my stomach with an air compressor. Anyway, I went to ER on a Sunday, and was admitted. The next day, they had to do an ERCP to remove the stone. Spent Monday night in the hospital, but was realeased the Tuesday. The surgeon wanted things to settle a bit before doing surgery on Thursday. It was still pretty inflammed, and they almost had to go to full blown surgery (not laparascopic), but she finally got it out. I felt better immediately, but was off work the entire next week. I was pretty tired when I went back, but managed ok. To this day, when I eat breakfast - I have to stay near a bathroom for a couple of hours. My dad is the same way since his gallbaldder was removed.

I'm not worried about going back to work. While I do work long hours...7:30am - 6:00pm M-F it's not an overly physical job. Thanks everyone for your input and support. I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll share my experience when it's over.

I think it's all the swelling and infection that causes that. My surgeon was very concerned that I would wind up with an infection, but I got lucky!

Did you have any bladder infection because of your gallbladder or any constant urination? I just found out I have gallstones and was wondering if maybe they are related to why I urinate so much.

Hi,

So you got me thinking.. I have surgery scheduled fro 4/20 for the band and start the liquid diet 4/6. I don't see the Dr. until 4/18. When had the ultrasound they did tell me that I had lots of little stones. I had gall bladder issues 20 years ago that were horrible and was going to get out then they stopped and have not had one since.

Does the Dr. often times go ahead with band operation if no symptoms or what's the experience there? I'm wondering if I should call his nurse and ask as would hate to do this dang liquid diet and get all geared up and then have him say oh no you need that out first. What a deflation when you are so ready to do the operation.

So just wondering experience there if others have. Sounds like most here were out after the band. Thanks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
