I was banded 10 days ago - it's been pretty good for me so far. The soreness just takes a couple of days, use your pain meds. I realized yesterday that I feel almost normal again - yeah! Good luck on your journey - we are all right there with you! Welcome to the newly banded side with me, :)

Did you have it in Mexico?

Do you have a recliner? That helped me for the first 2-3 nights to sleep. I was NOT able to lay straight because it felt like it was pulling on my port.

Stay on top of the pain med! By day 4 you will a million times better! I was banded last Friday and feel so much better today. Just port soreness - gas is totally gone. Good luck!!

I just got banded Wednesday...and the first night I spent in the hospital was very sore. They forced me to get up and walk to help with the gas pains...the gas pains went away quickly though...I never even had the shoulder pain! Now I'm home and just hungry. I have to move very slow though to get up and down. Just take it day by day...it just keeps getting better...until then though...I am on the pain meds day and night..

Yes, I did have it in Mexico at a place called the Obesity Control Center. Dr. Ortiz did my surgery and he actually trained the guy that did my sister's at UCSD in CA. I can not even begin to explain how incredible my experience was. The doctors and nurses were so nice and everything went so smoothly. I'm out walking around today. Just wishing I could eat some real food lol. Thanks for all of the support guys, it's nice talking to people who have gone through it also and can help me out :)

I had mine in Mexico too. Dr Kuri at Vida Wellness Center and Hospital Angeles. I too had a great experience. My surgery was a little over two weeks ago and I'm feeling good. Incisions are healing so they are itchy but that's about it. I can get my fills in mexico if I want since I'm only about 40 minutes from the border.

I'm about 40 minutes away too. I live in Escondido :) I was a little worried about coming to Mexico but it all went soo smoothly and I would recommend Dr. Ortiz to ANYONE. Plus, we saved SO much money by getting it done here. I'm just waiting until I feel normal again, a lot of soreness and a little bit of gas but nothing too bad

Congrats on your successful surgery and positive experience. Definitely take the pain meds as prescribed and do NOT wait for the pain to become bad before taking. My dr and nurses were very insistent that any pain over a 3 needed to be medicated. Basically your body can either heal or fight pain, but it can't do both at the same time, so don't be brave! Hopefully the meds will help you sleep tonight, but propping yourself up so you aren't completely flat might help, too.

All the best!

Dr. Ortiz is doing my surgrey this upcoming Friday. I am excited, a little worried about the flights home. I live in Idaho, so I have a few airports to go through the day after surgery. Good luck. What tests do they run before surgery there?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
