So my drs office called to let me know that when my nasal swabs came back from me being in the hospital, they are positive for mrsa. Anyone else come across this; I am two weeks post op, and i have no symptoms.

no swabs here, but be careful. I know they kept asking me if I had any open cuts/wounds. and they had signs about MRSA. Are you going to have to take medicines or something?

Only the nasal swabs were positive, so they are prescribing antibiotic nasal swabs to use for 5 days and another round pb hibicleanse from neck to toe

I have heard that's going around again. In fact, I heard there's been a couple cases where I had my surgery a month ago. What's weird is, it seems like the media hasn't picked up on it this time. Everyone is keeping very quiet about it.

Elizabeth, I'm so sorry to hear this. I was actually wondering about you as I haven't seen you on here. I was actually going to check in with you today but got busy cleaning. Do what ever the Dr tells you do too. Do the antibiotics bother you stomach with all that's going on?

Better to be safe than sorry. My father caught MRSA after a hip replacement and was in and out of hospital/surgery and now has 1 leg shorter than the other.

If you were to infect your wounds you could end up losing your band or worse so doing this cleanse and making sure your wounds don't become infected is really important. It's good that they tested and picked this up.

Thanks guys, i really do wonder where it came from. I'm very thankful that its in my nose only, from what I can tell. I got a nasal antibiotic to apply twice daily for five days with a qtip, and I also have to use hibicleanse neck down for five days. They said they will recheck me at my fill appt on march 13. I also got a call from my pcp after surgery just wanting to see me since I had surgery, so I will make an appt with her and see if they can check then as well. I was really shocked to hear this news today, esp almost 2 weeks post op

MRSA is not a new risk. It always has been a risk in the hospital setting. Anyone can be a carrier and not show any symptoms.

That is correct. A huge number of the population have it without knowing it, it only becomes a problem in surgery or if you have an open wound or a depressed immune system. I think it should be standard practice to test everyone prior to surgery as that could help alleviate problems but unfortunately they don't.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
