Insurance Question (Bsbc-Al)

Recommended Posts

Today I will finish my 7 month diet!!!! I started this whole process in July 2011 and I am really hoping to get approved for surgery for March. I am starting to freak about the whole approval process. Since I am filing for approval in 2012 do I have to have records of my weight for 2012, 2011 and 2010? or since I started the process in 2011 do I have to have records of my weight for 2011, 2010, 2009? I read on the BCBS website that my BMI has to be over 40 for 3 consecutive years. I believe in 2009 I was under 40.

I am also freaking out because everyone told me to "try" to lose weight during the 7 month diet, but not really try. I wanted to keep my BMI around the same so I really didn't lose any weight. Do you think this will hurt my chances of getting approved?

Hi, I also have bcbs AL...I'm in my 5th month now, yes your BMI has to be 40 or more for the past 3 years...09, 10,11 back in 09 my BMI was 40. 2 A little too close...lol I'm winding the same question about how much you need to loose during this time...I'm only down about 10 pounds....my doctor always says I'm doing a great job..so I'm not to worried about it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
