What To Mix With Greek Yogurts (Plain Or Vanilla)

Recommended Posts

So basically I eat greek yogurt EVERY DAY for Breakfast (and I love it!) I usually buy the one's with the fruit on the bottom and add a little granola. My DBF made the suggestion to get the big tub of either the plain or vanilla and add whatever to it.

Any suggestions?

Add fresh fruit. Blueberries and strawberries are good!

maybe some splenda for sweetness, or the sugar free jams would be good mixed in, kind of like the fruit on the bottom.

I agree with the above post also try pumpkin puree with cinnamon or applesauce with cinnamon. By switching to plain you will save yourself a lot of unwanted sugars.

My nutritionist told me to avoid the ones with fruit already in the because they have about 17g sugar. I mix peaches packed in Water (drained) or I mix my Protein Powder in it. I prefer ricotta cheese over Greek yogurt. It stays with me longer.

I just started adding chopped strawberries to mine and thought to myself, why didn't I do this before! Yum! I do buy a yogurt from Ralphs called CarbMaster. It is their brand and though it's not greek yogurt it has 8 grams of Protein and only 60 calories.

I add the plain to Soups, cheese sauce as a topping on anything you might put sour cream on its lower cal and higher Protein. I use it a lot in liquid and Soft stages to increase protein. A little in broth ( my dr approved before check with yours). During the clear liquid stage ; added a lot of flavor and protein.

Almost every morning during the work week, I have plain greek yogurt (which I get in two large tubs at costco for $4) with some frozen berries and about a tsp of agave drizzled on top. By the time I get to work, the berries have defrosted, but kept the yogurt cold at the same time. It is the perfect breakfast!

Also, if you're in need of a chocolate fix...it is really good mixed with some cocoa powder and either stevia, splenda, or agave...to cut out the bitterness.

How much cocoa and sweetener would you add? That could help with my chocolate cravings lol

I just add to taste...there are not very many calories in straight-up cocoa powder, and zero in both stevia and splenda, so it doesn't add too many extra calories

I like mine plain with walnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, some chia seeds and a drizzle of honey. Grain free "muesli". Really yummy and it gets me through the morning. Sometimes I defrost berries overnight and add those in too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
