Got banded on March 20th and feeling "normal" for the first time. Drinking chicken broth and Proasis mixed with Water for two weeks. Then it is pureed foods for another two weeks. I had horrible stomach cramps, gas, and diarrhea on Day 2 and Day 3. I discovered that it was being caused by the Isopure Protein liquid, which contains sucralose. My body is very sensitive to sucralose and cannot tolerate it. Once I stopped the sucralose, my life improved tenfold. Going back to work on Monday!

thats great that you are off to work on monday. i was just as well you found out what was causing the problems.. how awful when you had just come home to have that happen. congrats on being banded. its over . now the adventure starts. lol.

I agree...for now it is my immediate family's information. Some people don't discuss their procedures so you do not need to either until or unless you choose to do so.

i did explain to my youngest daughter when she came in .... i felt unsettled not telling her the whole truth. I did tell her about the hernia. i know she was very insistant about coming in to see me. i decided when she came in that i would tell her about the banding. im not sure about telling any of the others though. my son in law is a dreadful gossip... ive caught him out on it before. . and my eldest daughter tells him everything. i live in a small town and dont want it to be common knowledge. people would look at me and say im not obese, but they dont know the trouble i have with my joints and my blood pressure with the weight ive got on. so i think i will just leave the sharing for moment.

Hi All,

I am now 11 days post surgery. I feel very fortunate that my surgery went so well. They kept me overnight because my oxygen level was low and sent me home with the oxygen. Went to the Dr. today and found that I lost 17 lbs since pre op so far and my oxygen level is back to normal and I am released from the 50 ft hose that I have been toting around the house.

I am on soft food and have tolerated all that I have eaten very well. I still find it hard to get all my Protein and liquid in. Other than that I feel fine.

I hope eveyone's surgery and recovery goes as well as mine did.

Lori

Lori... thats marvellous that you are managing so well now. it must have been a nuisance with the oxygen.. a good thing that you are off it now .

my sats were low, they told me to do a lot more deep breathing, and the night after the surgery that was what kept me awake. lol. just concentrating on deep breathing all the time. i dont have to have Protein Drinks, just fluids for the time being. its amazing how different the drs are with their protocols. ive got some clear chicken broth that i made though and i will have that later on. im starting to feel a little hungry but have to ignore that. im allowed 200mls of broth each meal. im having tea, coffee, diet flat cordial and my chicken broth today. Tomorrow i can start on the protein drinks, have yoghurt in milk, other liquids. thats for a month. this is the lapband hell that everyone talks about im assuming. lol. at the moment im a teeny little bit hungry, not much though. i can pretty much ignore it. how is everyone else doing?? im not havaing any soft foods for a month. the dr explained the Fluid as being'' anything that can be sucked up through a straw".. so thats the consistency of what im having until this time next month. i should see a substantial weight loss.

Gosh, I miss a day and so much goes on! I had my first post-op appt and my 2nd nutritionist appt yesterday. I wanted to strangle the dietician. I have been following the book they gave me on what to eat but she wasn't satisfied with that. According to her, I should have been eating (this week) more solids and all but according to my book, I wasn't suppose to start solids until Sunday. Nothing I said was right, I said canned chicken (to make chicken salad) she would say canned tuna. She kept asking me about eating eggs and I told her over and over that I do not like eggs. However, she kept saying I need to eat eggs. Ugh, can we say she didn't listen??

My Dr appt was some better. He has the bedside manners of a mule. However, he did give me a fill b/c I said I was starving this week. He insists we only eat 1/2 a cup of food. The dietician insists we eat until we are full (whether thats 1 cup-10 cups, to her it doesnt' matter).

So I've tried full solids today and been successful so far. :)

Has anyone had the gastric plication along with their lapband? I had the band, plication, and hernia repair on 3/20/2012. I am doing great! Went to work for a while today. Not having too much trouble with gas, but my stomach is growling and I feel kind of hungry (in my belly, not my brain!).

My dietician has me only taking 1 oz clears every 30 min while awake. I have been going over this amount sometime to keep my stomach quiet! She says I will stretch my pouch out........anybody else dealing with this?

I'm banded! I only had to take the pain meds once. The pain is luckily not bad, tylenol should do it. Good luck to all who are yet to be banded. See you on the other side!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
