Found out today that I cant work until my restriction is lifted. So now I have 4 more weeks off work. Dont really care cause yesterday was hard. I do 12s and when I got off I needed some pain meds. It was so hard I dont see how many go back the same week. I guess it just depends on the type of work you do. Since I cant lift more than 20 lbs I have to be off. See it pays to save money for a rainy day. I cant complain this will give my body the time it needs to heel. Wishing a speedy recovery to all being banded.

No because I cant lift over 20 lbs and my job description says I must be able to lift over 50 lb. I call my doc and he says its not possible so must be off whole 6 weeks.

Thanks so much judy...i come from an Italian family and we always base everything around food...i love to bake and cook and eat of course...my family is doing everything they can to try to make it easier on me but they still have to eat and go on with their daily lives..i know i have to do this but i thought it was going to be hard not to eat because I'd be hungry but it's more emotional than anything..i know i have to do this and keep telling myself "it will all be worth it." Good luck to you judy..when is your day?

my day is thursday this week. i think my issues are more emotional than anything as well. i agree, the best thing we can do is say to ourselves ..it will all be worth it.. and ''yes, we can do it''..

Our family have always ''loved our chaff bag'' lol.. as we love to say. Not that im really obese and none of my siblings are either but i am overweight enough for it to be a big problem with my joints. I havent shared what im having done with my family... only my husband knows. My youngest daughter is insisting that she come in to see me early on friday morning..and i dont want to see her or any family member while in hospital. im sure im having a hernia repair done as well, and thats what ive been telling them all. If my xray is over and done with by the time she comes in it wont be so bad. .. but there is no guarantee of that. grrrr.. why do kids have to complicate things?? im going to have to be really adamant that i have no visitors. I wish i didnt have to say anything at all to them really.

thats good you have the time off you need to heal. it would be just awful if you did some damage while at work, and all because it hand healed properly.

I went back today (was banded the 9th) and I feel like I have done a million sit ups. I do a lot of bending, standing, getting up/down/walking.. Ugh, I'm tired :( Despite the pain, I feel like I am a million bucks! I am just loving having the band. Ok, call me crazy but I feel like I am starting to be normal.. Before, I was never feeling full, always hungry but now I fill up so fast!

Good luck to all the ones getting banded!!

Della,

It's hard to imagine what I would have done if my fiance had done that but I would hope that If I took a day and then told him I had thought about it but it is really something I feel that I need to do for myself (and for us) and I just really need him to support me in my decision even if it makes him nervous that he would understand where I am coming from. I would have been heartbroken to have not been able to get the surgery for whatever reason and honestly if my sig other had been the reason, I would have resented him in the long run.

Della,

Did he say why? Explain to him how you feel. This is something you need to do for you!

did you husband say why he didnt want you to have it?? apart from the fact that youve lost this weight beforehand?? whats your history like?? have you been on diets over the years and failed with them?/ if your history is like that then i think you would benefit from having the band. if it were me i would go ahead because its my health im concerned about, and no one knows better than me whether i would lose weight on my own. However, its your call. But, if you want to have it done, dont let anyone else dictate to you over it. What is your BMI do you know??

You have too do what makes you happy and whats right for you. Are you going to be able to keep the weight off? My husband was not supportive so my mom stepped up went to all my appointments and was there the day of surgery. She still supports me now and he really doesn't. I have high bp, sleep apnea, and my cholesterol started going up so I knew I needed change. I can say this is the best thing I could have done for myself. I want to live as long as I can and that keeps me focused. Is he just scared for you or insecure? Mine is insecure but he needs to deal with his own demons, Im gonna be healthy. I have 6 kids and they all support me too, they say whtever will make you live longer mommie and Im grateful for the support they have given me. Good luck in whatever u choose to do.

Hey does anyone know of any issues with chewing gum? My dr told me not to do it the first week but nothing about long term. With trying to overcome this "bandster hell" I really need to chew! Is this ok for banders? Thanks!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
