Well just an observation but I'm 4 days post surgery and I have NO idea how there are some people who go back to work next day. I went to church with my husband this morning and the instant I got home I needed to go to bed. I'm already considering not working tomorrow, I have serious respect for those of you who went to work immediately.

Hello March Bandsters,

My surgery is this Wednesday, March 21. No pre-surgery diet prescribed by my Doc. Good thing, I feel like I would go to the OR already feeling like a failure. I don't know how you do the liquid diet unbanded. God bless all of you that were able to do it.

Have my Clear Liquids and Protein Powder ready to go. My husband stopped and got me sugar free ice pops. Nice gesture from someone who is usually not the most supportive. He actually has taken quite an interest in this surgery.

See my primary MD tomorrow. Then all I have to do is pack my bag for the hospital. Excited but also a little nervous. Woke up from rotator cuff surgery violently puking. Don't want to mess anything up or do damage to myself. Have to make sure I speak to the anesthesiologist pre-op.

Well I wish all of us the best.

P.S. What exactly does pb stand for. I get the puking part. Just curious.

hi Imazz... so you are not on a pre op diet either?? neither am I. have you cut back at all, or starting taking very small bites and chewing a lot?/ im sort of trying. lol. Your husband sounds a like like mine. thats so nice that he stopped and got you those sugar free ice pops. i must look out for them here. i was going to put some diet lemon cordial mix in Water and freeze as ice blocks. thats probably as close as i will come somehow. our supermarket isnt all the diverse. lol.

so you are operated on on wednesday?/ You have a big problem with nausea and vomiting? so do I. fortunately ive seen my anaesthesiast an we talked it through thoroughly. He explained that he would start anti nausea drugs with me hours before i go to theatre. im admitted at 11 and in theatre at 3.

The best of luck to you. its a huge step we are taking. like you, i have the upmost respect for all these people who have been on liquid diets these last weeks and days. They deserve a medal, seeing as theyve had no band. keep in touch. i hope that you can sleep well the next couple of nights. im in australia. its monday morning here. Im off to have bloods done today. cheers.

Hi Judych,

Nice to hear from someone going to surgery on the same day. Wish you all the best. I get so emotional thinking about this surgery. I feel like I have so much riding on this.

Well I wish us both the best. Good luck. Can't wait to see how we progress post-op.

Lisanj, why are you depressed? Are you grieving the food you cant eat right now? sorry you went thru with the surgery? What is it?

Its not really the food..it's more like i feel all alone because i am not part of what my family is doing..seems like everything revolves around food..i dont know if that makes sense

Lisanj

I was banded on the 9th as well. I am not having any problems with depression but it is a common side effect of general anesthesia. It could be you are just feeling left out. It is hard to sit around and watch others eat. I have been cooking for Chris in the evenings but I sit there eating my Soup and Jello while he eats whatever I fixed. The first day back to work, Wed. everyone went to lunch as usual.........I had to sit in my office sipping broth, and jello. Meals are a big social event. Soon we will be able to enjoy the same foods........smaller portions but the same food. We have made the right decision for US. WE CAN DO THIS....

D :D

It makes perfect sense. All social activities seem to revolve around food. Happy hour with friends, weddings, holidays, birthdays, etc. You will need to focus on the people and conversation instead of the food. Life isnt all about food. There is so much more. And now you have the tool that will help you look beyond the food. I hope your depression is just temporary...and very understandable. I cant speak from experience becuz I have not yet been banded, but you are young and have soooooo much more ahead of you than to be trapped by food. Follow your docs program, make it special and exciting. Each step of this process is special. Get it goiing girl... Soon you will be dazzling everyone at the next family affair!!!!

Hello my awesome supportive fellow bandsters! I just got home from my 11am surgery, quite the drive back! I am feeling drowsy but no pain. When I woke up I could hardly breath, panicked a little. The nurses assured me I was breathing alright, it just felt weird due to the gas. Just a heads up for all of you who have yet to one through it. The surgical team was great, put me at ease and I got a prescription for hydromorphone so I hope that means not a lot of pain.

The weird thing is this...my surgeon did not have me do a preop diet, but I did as so many of you were doing I thought it wouldn't hurt. He also told me to eat some cottage cheese TONIGHT and have something like egg and toast tomorrow. I will continue as planned however, clear liquids to full liquids to mushies etc though.

I have my wonderful husband taking care of me today and then my mother is insisting she come take care of me tomorrow while he is at work. Wish me luck on that one!!! :)

I'll update again soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
