I got my bill today from the hospital. However, I already paid my co-pay so I shouldn't be responsible for the remainder.. I have to think there is a mistake in the bill b/c it says the total bill is $82,223.40 :-o REALLY?? Do they really cost that much??

I don't know why, but I have heard when it goes through insurance it is charged some insane amount. When you self pay ( I did) mine was 12k.

When they write off the excess they can claim that as a loss to the IRS

First day back at work! It actually was easier because it kept my mind off of food. Only eating clear fluids didn't seem so annoying. And my students were so sweet to me. They missed me even though they had the "HOT" substitute for four days. LOL. I am exhausted though.

glad to hear that you are back at work and doing well. so the students had a ''hot ''replacement ?? lol... tell them to give you a couple of months... way to go.

Hey everyone! I was banded on March 5, 2012 and still have some left shoulder pain. It comes on mostly at night and then dissipates during the day. My biggest side effect would have to be my rolling noisy stomach! I don't know if it is from the gas or what but my stomach makes the craziest noises. Sometimes it feels like my insides are bubbling. Anyone else have this?

Hey Alerker!

I have the same pain. i asked my doctor about it today and he says it's sensitivity from the port. Also says it will go away as the swelling goes down. Hope that helps!

Niki, yes that is helpful thank you

Getting banded tomorrow morning, day before my b-day. I know everything will be ok, or at least I keep telling myself that. I found a great amount of info on this forum and all stocked up and ready with gas-x, peppermint tea, liquid tylenol(cvs brand), acid reflux capsules, enough Protein to last me about a month and whatever else I can't even think of. I guess you can see I'm a little nervous, but I know it will all be fine.

yes, you will. as you know, this road has already been taken by nearly all here in the forum, and just recently. im sure that all the shared experiences and dos and donts have helped you so much. Going into surgery ill informed isnt nice, but you have the thoughts of everyone with you as you go . You will do really well.

I recommend bringing a small pillow with you to hold against your tummy when getting up or sitting down. It was a lifesaver for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
