For full liquids, my dr recommends:

sugar free pudding

Creamy Soups

Grits

Mashed pototoes

fruit juices

Frozen yogurt or sorbet

Protein Shakes

Hope this helps!

Thanks, will see if I can have potatoes and grits that would help.

Thanks for the support Yvonne74. So far I'm doing good. Took my walk to get mind off eating or not eating. It's almost noon and I've not yet had my tummy rumble

im good.. looking forward to getting my surgery over with. im spending heaps of time on this forum and making notes. ive written a lot down which is great. tell me... did you have a pre op diet that you had to go on?? apart from you at the moment i havent discussed with anyone else what protocols their drs here in australia have . im no pre op diet. i know that Wilkie ( dr ) is one of the best surgeons in the state' date=' he introduced banding here and has done over 20,000 procedures with them. i have to trust that he knows what he is talking about when it says its not necessary for me to diet. so, what did you have to do?[/quote']

I had the 2wk pre op shakes Optifast veges diet jelly and softdrinks lol. My dr was adamant about pre op diet it's to reduce the liver of Fluid and fat as they have to lift it to do the band and if it's bulky it can tear wen lifted. Thats wat the dr an dietician told me luv.

How did the optimist taste?

Anyone had to do Bariatric Advantage? If so, how did that taste as well.

Kristih, you will get through this. Pre-op diet was a struggle for me the first 3-4 days and then I was ok. I think I have a harder time after being banded for 6 days than I did before. I have had some cravings, but I ignore them, have some Water, Protein shake and find something else like studying to occupy my mind. You are going to do Great!!

March 19th here! :) i'm so excited and nervous! I can't wait to start loosing :)

Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

Jessc1984, it is almost here. So excited for you. I couldn't wait to get banded and now that I have, I can't imagine not doing it. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I have lost 11lbs since surgery 6 days ago and 25 lbs since starting my pre-op diet on 2/21.

Okay - March Buddies!!! I have officially kicked Diet Coke! It was a major vice for me. I could literally go through 10-12 cans a day! I have changed to water/crystal light. I had coffee the first two days off of diet coke...and since my doctor doesn't care if we drink caffeine...I thought I would just turn to that. But I don't really crave it now and have not had caffeine for 3 days! I have drank more Water in the last few days than I have had all year! So crazy!

It's funny how each physician has his own pre-op diets but the idea is to shrink the liver making it easier to manipulate during surgery. I weighed this morning and have lost 11lbs since my pre-op diet on the 9th.

Dhales

I know exactly what you mean. I was dreading no diet coke. I'm would wake up with diet coke and drink it all day at work. Since surgery I haven't craved it. I don't really care for hot beverages except hot chocolate! I am having caffeine headaches I think and am looking for something with caffeine.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
