Thanks Karla, fortunately it's just me at home, thank goodness I don't have to cook for anyone! LOL My team at bowling ordered pizza last night, that was a bit tough at first smelling that! But I just had my Protein Drink and was fine. Phew!

lol.. i guess we are going to have to accept that this is going to be an ongoing issue... i just love the aroma of roasting meat.. im hoping that im nowhere near anyone elses kitchen for a while. lol. im going to be dishing up salads with jacket potato with a piece of meat for hubby. he is pretty good really to cook for. we are very basic here. thats a real plus for me now.

I also have problems with vomiting after anesthetics. My surgeon prescribed the patch to place behind my ear 24 hours prior to surgery and then prescribed a new nausea medication to take the day of surgery. I believe the medication was called Namend or Amend, can't remember but I had no problems with vomiting or nausea after surgery. I had an allergic reaction to morphine, hives all over and diffculty coming out of the anesthetic so my surgeon kep me over night for observation since I live an hour away from where I had surgery. I would talk with your surgeon about the medications mentioned.

thanks for that. im going to talk with the anesthesiests, not sure if i will see the surgeon again. perhaps i need to ring him and talk with him as well?/ it sounds like im going to need something like this as well. i cant think of anything worse than heaving away and dislodging the band... im talking with the anesthesiests on tuesday, so i will ask about all that.

Looking glass. It's good to know the particulars about the swelling. I want some real food so bad after being on that 2 wks litetlpre op diet ... but I'm def not gonna jeopardize taeymy band. I put too much time into it. I'm doing better today I guess. I haven't had any vomiting and I've been sipping very slowly.

That's awesome it was a help he was very adamant about taking it slow and steady. That diet sure is a killer but dont worry won't be long and you can have something more resembling normal food lol well the purred/mashed version off anyway. I Havnt been all that hungry as yet. A little today so he said that will be the swelling going down which is good can move up to yoghurt and some purred something lol

Good thanks Judy I've been lucky no real extraordinary pain been very comfortable. No great hunger as yet. Feeling good. How are you?

im good.. looking forward to getting my surgery over with. im spending heaps of time on this forum and making notes. ive written a lot down which is great. tell me... did you have a pre op diet that you had to go on?? apart from you at the moment i havent discussed with anyone else what protocols their drs here in australia have . im no pre op diet. i know that Wilkie ( dr ) is one of the best surgeons in the state, he introduced banding here and has done over 20,000 procedures with them. i have to trust that he knows what he is talking about when it says its not necessary for me to diet. so, what did you have to do?

I've had tonsilectomy and I don't think I threw up ... But now that I think back on it I may have. I remember some type of pain in my incisions in the back of my throat bc of the acid that was coming up.

Then I had jaw alignment surgery . I threw up as soon as I woke uP. Yesterday they gave me An anti nausea patch and some nausea meds in my IV. I still threw up. I think I'm doing much better now and thanks for all of your concern. I hope they will find some relief for you so that your process goes smoother.

i hope so too.. ive gone into most of my major surgeries really concerned about vomiting.. im goign to have a good talk with them about it all. if there is a patch i can wear or anything else i can do i need to see them about three days before surgery. i have to work out my schedule beforehand as travelling isnt easy for us here. we have so far to drive.

Newme2012: how are you feeling now? I was banded on the 8th and still a little sore but I just feel blahhh! The weird "I wanna burp and it makes it to the top on my stomach then stops!" feeling is driving me nut! did you have that?

I have had some of that. I was banded on 03/06. It is quite annoying and hurts like the dickens when it won't come up. Walking does seem to help relieve that

Keep your eye on the prize!!! You can do it!!

I don't know that there are really any good tips. This is something you just have to set your mind to and ignore all other foods. The first 3-4 days were pretty rough for me too, but I got through it and now it is like routine, even now after surgery. I can cook for my family and not really have any cravings. You can do this!!

Two weeks prior to my surgery, I had to do a liquid diet. My surgeon said it was to help shrink the liver and it also helped prepare me for liquids after surgery, so it wasn't such a shock when I couldn't eat solids. Follow what your surgeon recommends as they are all different.

hi Carla... its so good to read how positive and encouraged you are by the banding.. you will do great as well. Thanks for the encouraging words for me.

it is exciting and its a huge step to take. How long have you been leading up to this surgery?? a year?? 6 months??

ive only been on this path about six weeks. lol. in a way its a heck of a lot of mind sets to change, and dealing with surgery as well, all in that time.

.. prior to my seeing my specialist last week, i really had no idea whether i would even qualify as far as he was concerned. my g.p. was positive but i didnt know how it would turn out.

then to have my consult with him and know that it was happening within two weeks?? wowzie.. lol.

im sure you know exactly what i mean.

Im just so glad i found this forum when i did...i joined on here weeks before i saw my specialist. its from here ive learnt and gotten positive encouragement and i think thats everything. without being on here i dont think i would have opted to have it done. way too soon, if you know what i mean. Too big a shock for me.

i would have known nothing about it except for that consult over the desk with the surgeon. its about much more than just a few moments talking about it in a consult, thats for sure.

yes, im positive, but scared all the same. i know that each one of us has a different story to tell. we are all unique in the way out bodies and minds work. its going to be a really fascinating and positive road that we travel down now.

im so glad to have met everyone here. eventually i will know everyone by name and where they live. im looking forward to establishing great friendships here. gotta close now. hugs everyone.

Judych, I started thinking about the lap band last summer and in August of 2011 I attended my first seminar. At that time my insurance coverage was "crappy" to say the least but in October they came around and decided that they would cover upto 85%. I set up an appt with the surgeon that had spoke at the Seminar (which I just loved) in October and the ball was set in motion. Her staff has been wonderful and helped me along the way. We set my surgery date on 01/27/2012 for March 6th and I got my approval from the insurance company on 2/24/2012. Talk about pins and needles. I was already a week into the liquid diet required by Dr Hawver and was scared the whole time that the insurance wouldn't approve and we would have to do an appeal but to my surprise it was approved the first go round. I am quite happy that I have had this done. I have 3 kids 20, 17 and 14 and a family hx of health problems that I do not want to inherit, so I knew I had to do something. I am glad that I joined this forum. thank you so much for all the encouragement. We will all need it to get through

I wasn't told to measure anything just to make sure I was sipping all day. I need to make sure I do the Protein Shakes. I'm have a lot of gas pain tonight and thankful for those Gas-X strips!

I have to do the Protein shakes as well and I can't say that the gas pain has been so horrible that I have to take anything for it. I do get uncomfortable and sometimes feel like there is a bubble that just won't pop but as each day goes by, it seems to be getting easier.

Karla, Glad its getting better. Mainly my gas pain is when I get up after a nap or sleeping for night. If this rain would let up then I could go for a walk outside. Thankfully, I haven't been interested in eating regular food so this liquid diet is easy so far.

Is the FB page a private page? Or just a new public page? Just wondering, if its a private page I would use my regular account..

Well only 2 more day before I am banded. The doctor I have does not require a pre-op diet. Just a clear liquid diet the day before surgery. I have been on this journey since August of last year, jumping through all kinds of hoops for the insurance.

Monday morning can't come soon enough for me to start my new journey. Good luck to all March Banders.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
