7 Mo. Post Op With 1-2 Lb Per Week Loss / Head In Weird Place

Recommended Posts

I was banded in May 2011. I had a fantastic experience with surgery, needed 5 fills ( my surgeon does no fill at time of surgery) through December 2011. I have lost 1-2lbs per week and had been very happy until I read the forums and see all of the Lap-Friends who have lost a lot more weight than I have. I food journal and eat small portions and meals, but my head's becoming completely unscrewed. What can I do or say to myself to get this negativity out?

You shouldn't be measuring yourself against anyone else. Each person is an individual and so is their weight loss journey. It is not a competition.

You don't know how overweight these people were to start with. How disordered their eating was. What their metabolism is like etc. They may have lost a lot so far but then they may plateau later.

There are probably other people that would look at your weight loss and think the same as you are thinking, so it is all relative.

You were happy until you started comparing yourself to others so stop !

its a little bit self sabotaging to compare yourself to others .. compare yourself to what you were a year ago :) that is your true measure !

um, hi ............ can i ask you something ? I dont mean to be rude or disrespectful or anything , but.......... if youre loosing 1-2 lbs a week when and where is that a negative ? did i miss something ? im only 7 weeks out down 15 lbs total and consider ANY weight loss a positive !! there are others that have lost more., or less than i have in the same time ,fine, but its MY body thats getting healthier and happier, so i'll take that any way i can. do you look and feel better or worse since you were banded ? count your blessings and if you cant see this as a blessing then with all due respect "PICK UP THE CLUE PHONE, ITS FOR YOU !!!

My doctor told me 1-2lbs a week is where they want me to be. Keep in mind this isn't the get rich quick schemes of the dieting world. Some people will lose faster and others will lose slower. You are not in comptetition with them but rather changing your life, your lifestyle, your whole outlook on eating.

Hey you can't compare what others have done to what you are doing! They are not you, and you are doing better than some! Just be happy with your success and forget about everyone else. It is a personal experience. One to two pounds a week is a big success by the way!! You are doing amazing, be proud of your accomplishments!!

And the slower you lose- 1-2 lbs a week as stated- the better your skin will look- it will have time to catch up to your weight loss. You're doing great, keep up the good work!!!!!

You are doing really well. I am more of a 1 pound per week person (or less) and I eat very conservatively and exercise 7 days a week (sometimes twice a day). I had lost 100 pounds pre surgery which I believe is why I am a losing slowly after. Also as previously mentioned I'm sure I lost slower than someone who was eating 3,000 calories a day persurgery. I was already down to 1300-1500 cals a day before surgery.

You are doing great! Weight loss varies so much from person to person. Variables such as age, sex, physical activity levels, daily calories, individual metabolism rates, medical issues, etc. have a huge effect on the rate of weight loss. It is impossible to compare yourself to anyone else without taking all of those variables and more into account...so stop comparing yourself to anyone else. This is your journey and we are here to cheer you along (not depress you!). By the way, 1 to 2 pounds per week is fantastic and I think your doctor would approve!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
