Pollyanna12 74 Posted February 8, 2012 Ok, this may be nuts but I have heard and read alot of consistency in foods that can/cannot be tolerated. Though some folks can eat anything! So I do realize that there are individual differences. My question is: can folks eat steamed broccoli post-banding? I eat so much broccoli now, I LOVE IT. I go through almost a 3lb bag of the flowerettes from costco each week. I am sure my husband would love if we never had it again, but it is my veggie of choice and I am not sure if I will be able to have it after my surgery. Holly Dolly 575 Posted February 8, 2012 I have no problem with broccoli. I don't eat raw carrots anymore and snow peas that were my favorite have gotten stuck twice. 1 Pollyanna12 reacted to this
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted February 8, 2012 Unfortunately everyone is different. I've read of people able to eat absolutely anything and everything with no problems. In contrast, I've read people who's food choices are severely limited because so much gets stuck. Really, there's no way to know what will work for you until you're banded and try it. (I know, total crap answer but the truth ) I do know that taking tiny bites, eating slowly, and chewing food to absolute mush definitely helps increase your chance of success without getting stuck. elcee 3,341 Posted February 8, 2012 I can't think of anything worse than lightly steamed broccolli. It's a good job we all have different tastes. I still eat it but for me it has to be really soft and I don't eat the stalk. It also has to have some kind of sauce of gravy to help cover the taste! Early on it was quite hard to eat but it has become easier.

zinhaa 363 Posted February 8, 2012 Unfortunately every band is different so there is no set foods. I myself can not eat raw veggies anymore. Fruits are a challenge too. Rice Pasta a most breads are not good either. left over chicken and meat are out too. Wendy
pmartin323 13 Posted February 8, 2012 Some days I am ok with broccolli and some days not, I find that if I nibble the flourets it is less likely to get stuck. I tend to have trouble with things that have little moisture. But typically once you heal and are back on solid foods this will or should be your measurements for eating......3oz. lean Protein, 1/2 cup green vegetable & 1/4 cup starchy vegetable. and then of course those healthy Snacks or Protein Drinks. Please keep your protein up or you will lose more hair than one normally would from the general anethesia.
mrsclooney918 47 Posted February 9, 2012 Cooked broccoli is good for me. Not a fan of raw. My newest veggie not to be tolerated well is...now wait for it...it's the least favorite veggie on the market... BRUSSEL SPROUTS! Cooked and chewed they are now rough going down now. I am bummed because they do a nice job of keeping me filled up.
