Help! Can't Eat!

Recommended Posts

I've had my lapband now for several months. I've never had an issue of not being able to eat, even it is in small amounts. I haven't had a fill for 2 months. I've eaten well and not had any issues. The last couple of days, I haven't been able to eat...period. I can take one small bite of something and I feel like it's stuck. I've been drinking quite a bit of liquids and haven't had any issues like nausea or throwing up. It's just hit the last couple of days. I had been eating a few pieces of sausage in the morning and quit the last couple of days. I don't know if this has had anything to do with it or not. I've actually over eaten too much lately and decided to get my act together and jump back on the wagon. I have always been able to eat salad and I couldn't even eat more than 2 bites before it was sitting right there in the middle. Please give me any advice or comments about going through this. I've lost about 35 pounds now since I've had my band and just wandering if anyone else has gone through it or if there may be another possible reason.

It sounds like you finally have reached restriction! If you can drink, and are not vomitting, you are doing fine. Good luck to you, Karen

Even if you're not vomiting and able to drink Water, you still could be too tight. You should be able to eat more than 2 bites of food without feeling like it's stuck.

You mentioned you've actually over eaten recently. There is a slight chance you could've slipped the bad by over-filling your stomach, too. That could also cause the symptoms you describe.

I'd talk to your doctor's office and see what they say. They may want to check your band for slippage to be safe.

Best wishes to you.

I was also thinking possible slip. For things to change so suddenly would normally indicate something has happened. GO to your Dr and get checked out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
