1 Wk Post Op And I've Already Cheated Several Times.....

Recommended Posts

I'm only 1 week post op and have already cheated and had solid food. My hunger pains started on Sunday and I just couldn't take it. I just chewed the food up really really good and swallowed it down with Water. Whatever. I'm so over this, at this point I am regreting having this surgery. I am so pissy and emotional its pathetic. I thought I was stronger than this, but I am not!!! I have my post op appointment on Thursday, hoping I didn't screw anything up. Anyways, rant over.

It seems like every doctor has a different pre-surgery and post-surgery diet. My doctor only had me on liquids for two days, then I went to mushies for two days, and then right into eating as tolerated.

I think I went to solids sooner than I was "supposed to". Didn't do me any harm. The beginning is the worst, but you won't regret it as you start to lose weight! Don't get discouraged!!

Don't beat yourself up...you are human and we all have moments when we are not at our best...please don't regret what you did...it is the best thing you did! I can't really give you any advice other than to hang in there and tell your doctor what you are experiencing. I had such a desire to chew something so I ate about three nibbles of a saltine cracker...I'm 5 days post op...lol...how stupid was that? Anyway...don't give up!

i think so many of us (me with both my hands up) didnt realize how much this whole weight loss thing is MENTAL! Dont beat yourself up about the cheating. we all do it at some point. the point is dont stay there. no one said this journey was going to be easy and it surely isnt a quick fix. does your doctors office offer a support group. maybe if you could chat with others at the same stage you are it would help you get thru the tough times in the beginning.

Know that we are all pulling for you! feel free to PM me if you'd like

Oh yes! Mother Nature came to visit me this week and I am not on solids. I really wanted to dive into a bag of pretzels. So much of our lives are tied to food. It's extremely hard to break those habits! It was all I could do not to go nibble on the bag in the pantry.

Everyone is different and can tolerate different things. I had no problem drinking any amount of fluids from the get go. I have friends that can't eat bread, Pasta, eggs, steak. All those things I can eat and I would still choose to have the lapband.

I'm sort of surprised that you wanted solid food the first week after surgery. I felt so horrible at that time, that even Water was difficult. What you are likely experiencing is "head hunger". Are you an emotional eater? When you feel bad, do you eat to feel better? Talk to your doctor and be honest about what is going on, but eventually you will have to work with the band and let it help you lose weight. That "head hunger" does diminish with time, but you have to follow the doctors orders and give it time. It took me a couple of months to start to recognize the difference between "head hunger" (eating to feel better but not really hungry) and "real hunger" (eating for nutrition, grumbling stomach, etc). I hope this isn't too rambling/confusing and good luck with your journey.

The success of the lap band remains in your hands. The band is only a tool to help, we still have to remember that we have to change our habits, and it is possible for the band to fail by not following the suggested amount of food. As for me I only eat 3oz. of Protein, 1/2 cup vegetables & 1/4 cup starch. All this together will equal 1 cup.

I wish you luck, and I am sure you can do this.

WHAT IS DONE IS DONE BUT THE SOONER YOU START FOLLOWING YOUR DR'S INSTRUCTIONS THE BETTER.

You may not think you have done any damage but you may have done something now that could contribute to a slip in the future. The postop diet is there to make sure that the stitches holding the band in place are able to heal. When you chew solid food your stomach churns to digest it, this does not happen with liquids.

This period may be hard but it is sooner over. We know what it is like because we have all been through it. Stope acting like a defeatist and show THAT YOU ARE STRONG. If you put your mind to it YOU CAN DO IT.

Isn't everyone's band empty when they put it on?? Mine is at least...and I am experiencing physical REAL hunger. Like my stomach turns and growls so loud! Its just like my old appetite, nothing has changed. I haven't had any problems with anything I've tried to eat or drink from day 1. My biggest incision, (which I'm guessing is the port?) is still sore but other than that I'm good! I will tell my doctor whats going on tomorrow and hopefully I will get some answers and solutions! I cannot wait until I start getting fills and I'm to where I'm not hungry all the damn time. Thanks for all your responses, I appreciate it : )

Don't stress yourself out for cheating. I cheated, I had solid food two days after surgey, well mashed potatoes. I am not saying its okay to cheat, you should try to do what your Dr says to do. Everyone heals differently and handles food differently. The key to cheating, or as Dr oz says cheat in the right way ) I love Dr oz). Please remember more than likely you have no liquid in your band so no restriction, you are going to be hungery as hell, it will help if you eat high Protein high Fiber foods which will help keep you full till you are out of bandster hell.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
