Port Coming Through..lap Band Has To Go...

Recommended Posts

Hy, I'm Judy a newbie here..

I got lapbanded 4 years ago and lost all I wanted during a year, had 3 plastic surgeries to remove my skin, I've been choking a lot and throwing up a lot all the stuff you had, you know.. So far I don't know anything about my complications I may have, hopefully I do not have anything inside me.. Ohh yes, I have one: my port is coming out, so I decided to ask for the removal.

Im so thin that the port is literally coming through the skin and I can see the plastic white port sticking out of my stomach..At least I can NOT FEEL ANY PAIN or something like that..but its not the best feeling to know that something is coming out from you..As I can see it, it is somehow twisted, I mean it turned upside down or something like that..Im taking antibiotics and using Betadine...

Tomorrow I'm going to see my doc ( he is a jerk, believe me, he never answers the phone, does not care about his patients so I'm glad to be still alive..:)...) and ask him to remove the band as soon as possible..I want my life back:)

I want to live normally again, I don't want to wait for hours to be able to drink something when I wake up, I dont want to stand while eating..Want to live like normal people..Just a little bit scared of the removal..uhmm, and last but not least: I WONT GET BACK ANY POUNDS!!!

any similar experiences?after removal how many days do I have to spend with lying in the bed?

Have you considered that if you get your band out and don't revise to another form of WLS then odds are that you will very soon be as fat as you were before you got banded? It might be a tough thing to hear but unfortunately it is true. Very few people maintain their loss once their band is removed.

It sounds as though you are either too tight or you have a slip. Both of these can be corrected. If you really want rid of your band why not consider a revision.

What do youmean by WLS and slip? Sorry, Im not a native English:S The reason why I think that I wouldnt be as fat as I were is that my life has changed a lot..I'm way more active and do lot more stuff than earlier..Way back then eating was the escape for me, now I think I matured a lot to consider it in an other way...

I'm definitely not to tight..I do not have any liquid in my band, still I cant eat anything and it causes my sometimes trouble to drink..I"ve lost 125kgs in 14 months...I do not want to go back to that "life" ever again..It made me learn to respect the difference..I hope so..

Why would you stand up to eat? If you are not too tight and everything is ok with the band, why not just get a new port in a better location?

When Im standing thats is the only way when I feel that the food is going into my stomach..I tried it when sitting with straightening my back, but the food is not going down that way..these things just made me tired during the years..:S

And I'm very tired of surgeries too..Im very young, I don't want to live my entire life like this...The only occasion when I would like to be my stomach opened up is the removal and not the port's relocation..

It sounds like you'll be fine with a removal since your entire lifestyle has changed. Many people on the Biggest Loser manage to keep it off because they enjoy being active and living life now. Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
