fabnatsdiva 0 Posted February 5, 2012 Does anyone have any advice for working out after a 12-hour shift? I feel so beat/tired while working three 12-hour shifts overnight (usually in a row), so I was wondering if anyone did anything to energize themselves? B-52 7,113 Posted February 5, 2012 It's been a while for me, but once I did. I belonged to a gym that had all the extras. After along shift, I'd get off work at 7 am,go to the gym and workout,THEN sit in the sauna to slow cook all the muscles, sweat out the impurities, and THEN soak in the whirlpool/hot tub!!!! HEAVEN!! After that it was Breakfast ata diner, then home to bed! It really felt great. I almost miss those days.

Jess55 97 Posted February 5, 2012 I don't work 12 hour overnight shifts, but my shifts are 10 hours. I usually can only have the energy to workout in the morning. After work I am to tired. Luckily my shifts are now all swing shifts. So 2 pm- 12 am. I go to kickboxing at 10 am, or to the gym at 10 am. When I used to work morning shifts I was always so tired after work to do anything. Up til a few weeks ago, I was still working one morning shift and I used that day as my off day, since like I said I'm to tired after work to work out. So maybe try before work? Obviously leave enough time to go home and shower and such. Not sure if that's feasible for you.
fabnatsdiva 0 Posted February 5, 2012 Yeah I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and wake up earlier to workout, then go to work. At least it will be done and over with by then. Thanks for the advice!
betheboo 40 Posted February 6, 2012 I work 12 hr night shifts, 2 days a week now. I can't seem to gather the strength to workout on the days where i worked the night before & have to go back. I usually go on my days off. It's hard to start a workout routine but after a few weeks you start to get into a groove.
