3 Days Post Op...gas Go Away!

Recommended Posts

Oh, lordy...gas is so bad! No matter what I try to drink I get gas...I have been walking on my treadmill, taking Gas-X...I woke up this morning and didn't have any gas and felt the best I have felt since I had my surgery but once I started to drink, I felt the gas coming on...when will it end or will it? I am miserable.

Just go with it. It will get better. I am 5 days post and every day is better than the last. I am on solids as tolerated now and so far so good. I had no saline in band yet return on 20th for first fill. Hang in there.

Just curious . . . Does this happen to everyone? My understanding is that it depends on how the surgeon removes the gas. Has anyone not struggled with gas pain post LB placement?

I couldn't eat or drink a thing the gas pains were so bad! I found a product called Phazyme for gas. It has the maximum dose of simethicone (gas reliever) worked very well. Hate to say it burping and tooting helped and I am not a fan of either, but I did what ever it took. It took me about a week. Hang in there it will pass! Best wishes on your journey!

My gas lasted about a week and I walked, burped a lot and unfortunately tooted. I never was anxious or scared waiting for my banding but I was so dreading the gas they told me to expect. I had a emergency Caesarean 26 years and the gas was excruciating. Thank goodness this gas was less painful. It will eventually leave the building and you'll feel amazing.

The gas pain was definitely the worst part of the whole experience. I dont know how I had totally missed any mention of it when I was reading up beforehand either... it came as a shock to me. I was insisting to the nurses that I was going into cardiac arrest, since my left shoulder was on fire.

But I am now 8 days out and can't feel it anymore. I was banded last Saturday, and I think by this Thursday or so the pain had mostly gone away.

So hang in there! I found a heating pad helped me a lot, moreso than the Gas-X did. Also, the nurses at the hospital recommended Peppermint tea. I didn't try it but they swore by it.

In addition to the gas pain in and around my stomach and shoulder, I have been having a burping problem! Sometimes, its a big long burp that would qualify me for a burping contest. Sometimes, it almost feels like it gets "stuck" and all of it doesn't come out...which hurts. Then, sometimes, its a burp/hiccup hybrid, and THAT really hurts. Wondering if anyone rose had the same problem!

Horsegirl...having the same burping issues as well...I could seriously win a burping contest! When I feel the gas pains coming on I take my liquid Loritab if the pain is really bad, which it usually is. I don't care what anyone says that is why I have it to help me get through it...no one should have to suffer if they don't have to. I also walk on my treadmill and move my stomach around with my hands trying to massage it out...sounds crazy but I am trying anything. But..it's not as bad today as it was yesterday...I'm confident that it is going to be better each day

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
