Wow, What A Few More Days Will Do For Recovery:)

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days past surgery and to say the least. I was really having a hard time recovering from the pain. This morning I am feeling pretty good. The stabbing pain is gone, my shoulder pain is gone. I was starting to wonder what I had done, but now I am getting ready to help a child hood friend Celebrate her Daughters Sweet 16 party, sitting by the pool drinking my Soup. lol

Thanks for all the support and good luck to you all.

I'm 8 days out and feeling better. Didn't have any gas pains throughout but just tender, sore and tired for the most part in the abdomen area. Now that all seems to be disappearing. Now itchy which is a good sign that the scars are healing.

Has anybody experienced extreme fatigue? I had surgery on the 31st and abdomen and shoulder pain are almost completely resolved. Now I'm dealing with extreme fatigue on the least little bit of exertion and sometimes I get lightheaded and dizzy when I stand up. I've never been one to just sit around and that's all I want to do now. I'm making myself move, walk, do a little laundry, putter around the house. My fear is I have to go back to work on the 9th and I don't see how I'm going to manage if I don't regain some of my energy!

I had surgery the 30th also and today is the first day I have actuallu considered leaving the house. I have been in pain, tightness in abdominal muscles, and extreme fatigue. I think the loratab I take for the pain is what causes the tiredness. My worst day was yesterday, I was in a lot of pain and hungry, started doubting my decision. Today is a better day. One day at a time is all we can do! 11 lbs down sure is good encouragement!

I'm in the same boat with you re: fatigue. I had sooo much energy yesterday, didn't sleep much last few nights but last night especially, Got up at 6.30 this morning, totally not me, and was wide awake, putzed around finally finishing the laundry, took a shower, got dressed, made my list of errands to do and had to sit down a few minutes before going out. Got out, was out about 2 hrs or so and had one more stop and I just went home. I hit the proverbial brick wall. I was grouchy, hungry, achy and just plain ol' crabby, I fell asleep on the couch until my beloved cat Max, hopped up on my stomach, yep right near the port which didn't help the situation but I was ok. Went back to sleep and just woke up to have an early dinner as I'm doing my best to get out and go on a movie date with my husband. Hoping I don't fall asleep during the movie and start snoring! Like Elizabeth said, "one day at a time", sometimes, one minute, one hour... I'm down 13 lbs and glad all this is not for naught. :-)

I had my surgery on the 30th and the shoulder pain for the past two days have been the only reason I've had to take the pain meds. I tried Gax X and then Phazyme, and finally got some relief today. Other than that, it's been pretty good. The pre-surgical liquid diet was easier. I keep wanting to try to eat SOMETHING, but am terrified of something going wrong.

Glad to join you ladies and I know we all made the right decision! Let's pull each other through.

I am 5 days post op and today is the first day I really feel like myself. Energy is returning. I am on solids as tolerated. Tonight I had a small salad with chopped egg and some grilled steak with a side of applesauce. I didnt eat all of salad or steak but it was delicious and satisfying. I return to Dr. on 20th for first fill. I am so excited to be able to do this and to not be hungry all the time.

I just had my surgery on the 3rd and boy oh boy does it hurt... I just got on the scale and it seems as if I've lost nothing despite eating nothing. Is this normal?

You are probably retaining Fluid. I am 10 days post op and the first few days I actually gained weight. Now down 10 lbs. You just had surgery a few days ago. It will happen.

Armymom, I'm with u, about 10 days out and feeling pretty dang good.

Re fatigue, its probably because you're not getting enough Protein, which is hard with liquids. When u add in more Protein you'll feel more energy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
