Yolanda Swing-banks 1 Posted February 3, 2012 I just started the Depo shot early last month, I am supposed to get banded in March. I want to know if anyone had gained weight on lapband after having the shot. I know a few people who have not gained weight and I know a few people who have. So i just want to know if anyone had a difficult time losing weight while on the depo shot.
sam3841 57 Posted February 3, 2012 I am actually getting my first depo shot today, so I will let you know what happens on the scale. My gyneo said that since you work out so much you really should not gain any weight. Hope j can keep losing though. He said the weight gain is no different than any other birth control. PAenergy 2 Posted February 4, 2012 I wish I could answer your question. I actually have the same question. Depo provera has been the most effective and convenient form of birth control for me over the last 10-12 years. It's also be been a part of my 50 lb weight gain over that period. Of course the larger part of my weight gain was due to my unhealthy eating habits and inactivity. My banding isn't until April 2012, but I would somewhere down the line like to consider going back on it. I know that I have to get my lifestyle (food and activity) under much better control first. Kezzo 0 Posted February 4, 2012 I have to say, after using Depo, all different pills, etc... I will never use any of them again. I have a Mirena now and it is AWESOME! If you have the option, definitely look into it!

Jenn1214 120 Posted February 4, 2012 I worked for an gynecologist for a few years, and I learned that Depo is notorious for causing weight gain, the average being about 30 lbs. Most of the doctors in the practice would only consider it for women who had low normal BMIs. I would try to find another option if you can; you don't want to be behind the 8 ball before you're even banded.
sam3841 57 Posted February 4, 2012 Every birth control you can take says may gave weight, but if you are like me and never remember to take that pill everyday you know what you need. I would rather have an extra 30 lbs than a baby!
