A Week Late For My Period Post Surgery And Not Pregnant...suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hello all...my lap band surgery was january 11th and I was due for my period this past sunday January 29th. It hasn't come, and I have no symptoms. Im also not pregnant...should I not worry just because of the strain surgery had on my body and my hormones being off? Thanks for the input!

I was on the verge of making an identical post. Mine is late as well, and my surgery was the 13th.

The rapid weight loss can throw your body off and make you miss periods. You can always double check with your doctor though, it can't hurt! :)

Probably an effect of surgery. My nurse mentioned anesthesia can do that. I wish it happened to me that way, I've had mine going on FOUR months! Now that I'm banded i can finally get some bc pills to make it stop!

My cycle was all out of whack after my surgery...my period was late and when I got it, I bled for almost 2 weeks. I was so freaked out I went to see my gyno. She said that the stress of surgery, as well as the strong antibiotics (just as a precaution) were enough to mess with my hormones. This is definitely one thing they don't warn you about before surgery!

Talk with you doctor but probably just a side affect off surgery. My periods were very messed up for at least 6 months. I asked if it was because of surgery/weight loss and my NP said "you aren't loosing fast enough for that" Gees thanks. Four months out I had 2 periods in one month.

I had Oblation surgery two years ago, so I have not had a period in 2 years. After I had my Lap Band Surgery I started spotting, which I was told that, because your body has gone through changes due to surgery, that spotting is not unusual, even for someone like me who hasn't had a period in a couple years. Just watch it and you should be fine.

After surgery or any stressful event your period is easily thrown off. I wouldn't worry about it. After my banding my period was not only over a week late but it was super light ( not normal for me). However, after a month everything was back to normal.

Jayeedee I was banded on the 13th too!

And yup, I had period issues too. Mine lasted way longer than it usually does. Doctor said it's normal with the rapid weight-loss and stress from surgery!

I had mine the week prior to surgery and then it started again 4 days after (which was last Sunday.) I'm over this already but my doctor said its normal and can be caused by the anesthesia.

I'm laughing at all of us with late periods at the same time. I, unfortunately seemed to have had PMS despite the no period!! I can't accept that I was just that much of an emotional wreck for no reason!! lol

After reading all your posts am very glad that I didn't have to deal with this. I was already 8 years menopausal when I was banded.

Thanks everyone! I'm happy to hear that it should be coming...now I'm wondering if I should start my new pill pack tomorrow even though I haven't gotten my cycle yet? Thoughts?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
