Calcium helps break down fat

Recommended Posts

I was reading this article tonight and found this bit to be particularly interesting and wanted to share it with everyone. Calcium is one thing I've completely forgotten in the midst of all these changes that came with the band. Anyone educated on calcium and what's a good amount to take? Not just the RDA - I think those are far too conservative.

Also, I found this article about calcium absorption that everyone should read over. Especially us gals who are getting on in age and need more calcium. I noticed is listed whey Protein as a possible deterant to calcilum absorption. I find this hard to believe since so many doctors are telling us that whey is the best form or protein supplement. Boy do I have some questions for my doctor and nutritionist next week!

My surgeon's nutritionist demands I take 1,000 to 1,200 mg by supplement each day.

As well as Iron and a multi

I am told to take Multi Vitamin early in the AM, Calcium 1 hour later, 2 hours after that a protein....jumping to later in the day another calcium 30 minutes after last meal , then 3 hours later Iron before bed. :hungry:

I have read that the Calcium in milk is too coarse for humans to use - that it's meant for baby cows, not humans. Cows don't drink milk to make milk - they eat nothing but greens and grains, which supply all the calcium they need not only to keep their own bones healthy, but with enough left over to create a high calcium milk for their offspring (to build big, heavy cow bones).I don't think this is a very popular stance, as the government seems hellbent on pushing milk products on the public, and I don't even know how true it is, but...The argument that no other adult animals on this planet need to drink milk (of any species, let alone a different species) to supply their calcium needs seems kind of significant to me, and implies that humans probably don't need to, either...FWIW

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
