I'm in North Dallas and just getting myself in the swing of things. Had my surgery June 2010 with very little restriction, 2.5; which was ok since I was traveling for work & having to do business dinners fairly often the less restriction gave me freedom for that. I had not had a fill and lost about 45 lbs, but this weekend i finally got one and really want to do this not so half-ass as I admittedly have been. Rapid weight loss was not my original goal, overall health and feeling better about myself was. I think now the my two year mark is approaching I'm having a freak out moment where I realize I have let precious time go by that I could have had much better results with. When I went in they measured my fill at 2.0 and filled me to 3.5. I Was doing so mny things wrong I'm surprised I lost any weight at all. I'd love to know some Texas peeps going thru this. No one I know can fathom my decision other than a handful wh

Hi DFW friends! I'm 11 days post op now and the gas pains are pretty much gone. I just have a horrible pain in my left shoulder. I've read others have had this and am just scared its not going to ever go away. Walking walking walking was the best for the gas. There's really nothing that helps the shoulder pain. :(

Hi DFW friends! I'm 11 days post op and the gas had mostly subsided. Walking walking walking is the best for it. Right now I have horrible left shoulder pain. I'm so afraid it's never going to stop! :(

Just found this thread and thought I'd bump it up! I live/work north of Dallas. I'm hoping to be approved for surgery soon. My husband was banded about 2 years ago and has lost about 130 lbs in that time (started at 380lbs).

Ok DF/W banders, wanna be banders, and curious ... lets set up an evening, after work, where we can gather.

Irving or Arlington might be good just because there are those of us from Rockwall and Benbrook, Allen and Alvarado ....

Lets hear some suggestions. We are all at different stages so we can't all have the same things. My suggestion is Mexican food or maybe a steak house. Because Soup, refried Beans or baked potato, and Protein like steak and chicken.

Say??? A Tuesday night? June 5th?

Let me hear from you. You can email, text, message on here, or whatever.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
