Flipped Port

Recommended Posts

I went for my first fill today. I am now 6 weeks post-op. The doctor tried and tried and could not do my fill. I am sure going to be bruised in a couple days when the bruising shows up!!!! Finally, the doctor gave up and is sending me for an x-ray tomorrow because he thinks my port is flipped. So, if its flipped, he is going to have to go in and flip my port back over. He said this is a new type of port that he just started using at the time of my surgery, and he has had 2 now that have totally flipped over and a couple that were flipped sideways....mine happens to be totally flipped (from what he thinks). I left the office very upset and frustrated, the doctor was mad (not at me though). I was really hoping to have my fill and be on the road to losing, now I'm just a little down.

Anyone else have this happen? If so, how painful is it when they go in to fix the port?

I'm not sure of the brand, my dr did say it was a new port and he is seeing issues with it with several patients

I had my lapband on 12/28. I have had 2 tries at being filled. My doctor thinks my port flipped too, I get a flouro next week to see. I can feel your frustration. I had a hematoma post op, he thinks that had something to do with it. I am frustrated too. Hungry all the time and stress at work has had me eating like a pig. I heard that to flip it is an easy procedure, but I really don't have the time to be off work, working in healthcare puts the patient' s bedrails right at port level. Ugh, aggravated! I was so hoping that I would be well into my weight loss journey, instead I keep hitting roadblocks.

I know that feeling! I got the confirmation that the port is indeed flipped. But the hospital's procedure room is booked until the end of March. I dont know what is going to happen yet or when I can get my fill at this point. I work in a hospital too, so I feel your pain!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. Banded Dec. '11. My doctor is saying the same thing about seeing more port flips so I would bet the same type of ports were used on both of us. Very frustrating :(

Jenn, I had my port fixed weeks ago, it was a strange experience, but not as bad as I was thinking. The worst part is, my port is now not nearly as deep as it was. I can easily feel it when I lay down. Once I got it flxed and a fill, Things were better. I go in next week for another fill, I know I need it. Good luck with yours. Let me know how you are doing

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
