Howdy ya'll! LOL, just kidding. I am rather new to the lapband as I was just banded on 12/28/11 and I have heard some people say they didn't lose much weight in the first month of being banded. I have lost almost 30 lbs in since I was banded and I wasn't sure if anyone else had lost that much in their first month. Can you folks please let me know how your journey is coming along, not only in lbs but also in energy levels, mood changes, etc? Have a great day!

Hi Chrysta,

Congratulations on your weight loss. Way to go, Girl! That's amazing that you lost 30 lbs. What's your secret?

I'm still pre-op ... in the surgeon search stage. But I think I'm about to make a decision. I can't wait. I've lost 30 lbs, too since I started my journey in July.

Keep on posting! Welcome to our group. We're still new & super glad to have you.

Shiki,

Congrats on the weight loss thus far and major congrats on finding a surgeon. As for a weight loss secret? I'm not sure I have one...my thing wasn't that I was so much "addicted" to food (if you will), I just NEVER felt full. The band has changed that! Don't get me wrong, sometimes I miss chewing food more than I do but since I finally get full I have no desire to keep eating. I generally drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast since I am often thirsty and on the run in the morning; for lunch I eat 3-4 oz of quinoa (my new favorite food!) or chicken or some other protein; and for dinner I might have 2-3 oz of fish and 1 oz of broccoli florets. I also like to walk around at work when I get bored and I window shop at the malls on the weekends to burn a little extra calories. I have not gotten into the exercise thing yet but maybe one day. LOL! I hope this helps you and others out.

Yay us for starting the journey to make our goals a reality!!

Got really bad news today. True Results does not accept my insurance. Now I start searching over again.

Like you, I don't have issues with food. I was thin all my life until I went thru chemo. The steroids caused a massive weight gain.

Sounds like you're on the right path.

Looks like my surgeon will be Dr. Harry Meyers in Dallas, who comes highly recommended. I have an appt for April 2. He isn't affiliated with any other company. From what I hear, he has a very mellow atmosphere in his office. He used to be Chief of Surgery at Bethesda Medical Center.

He was recommended to me by a gal who works at True Results. She used to work for him and thinks the world of him!

Hello bandsters,

I made my goal to be 185 in one year. I had obstacles along the way, I constantly ate too fast and without chewing food properly. My band was loosened and tightened toaccommodate the struggles. I ate foods which were lean, kept up with regular exercise, and drank plenty of Water. I take bariatric Vitamins from bariatric advantage.com. My weight has changed over the years, almost been five since operation. I am over weight again, now. Initially when heavy, I hired a personal trainer who literally worked my butt off.

I used to weigh 340 lbs. I dropped down to 177. I have gained more than 30 back from poor eating habits and less exercise.

I have been banded for almost 3 years now and I am still on my journey. I would tell everyone that is thinking about banding that it is totally worth it, but it is not the FIX to all your problems. It helps me greatly with my Portion Control, but I can still suck down a chocolate malt from Sonic like nothin! It is a tool and you still with have your ups and downs... just hopefully more downs! I have been at my current weight for the last year. I am a bit frustrated, but it is my own fault. Half the time I wake up, get going and dont eat until 2 or 3... then I will have a piece of chocolate or six while I work and not realize how much I had. So I have the typical struggles of choices just like I did when I was fat, I just dont have the huge portions that I use to eat. My goal this next year is to start my day ... EVERY DAY with my protien shake and get my metabolism going early. Have my fruit as my snack and continue to do my walking .. Im not a huge exerciser, but I do walk 1 or 2 miles a day. I still struggle with my protien as some chicken and meat I have a hard time keeping down. So I have gotten used to grabbing for the mashed potatos and other sliders.... typical choices again! Just have to refocus my attention to the task at hand and get back at it! Although I am thrilled with how far I have come, I still have more to go. Anyone getting started, just know this is a journey and LapBand will take you part of the way.. like me.. but the rest... YOU will have to have the willpower to do... Im also addicted to Crystal Light... but thats a WHoLE nother story! LOL!

Cheryldee - Congrats on your weight loss. That's quite an accomplishment. I am hooked on Cherry Pomegranate. But I discovered Walmart has same thing at a much cheaper price. What are your flavors?

TexasSusie - I am very happy for you. Wish I could be your roommate, but I haven't yet managed to jump through all the hoops. Best of luck, soon-to-be-skinny lady!

Just found this group. I am in the Dallas area and working through True Results in Richardson. I have one more visit and then they will submit to insurance. Hopefully I will be banded by the end of May. To those already banded, sounds like you are doing great and to those of us still on the journey, good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
