Band Friendly Foods In Europe

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my surgery about 6 years ago, have lost over 70 pounds, and have been stable for quite a while.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Germany, France, Italy, and Spain in the fall.

As you all know, eating in a US restaraunt can be quite challanging, even when I know the foods.

Eating in foreign restaraunts will be daunting, when I have no idea of what the foods are, nor how band friendly they are.

Also, I have one or two Protein drinks (Glucerna) a day. Are there equivalents over there?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help..............

You are 6 years out I would have thought that you would be quite comfortable by now with they type of foods you can eat. It doesn't really matter what country you are in the basic ingredients are still the same.

If you can eat rice in the USA then you should be able to eat rice in Europe and vice versa.

If you stick to your slow cooked moist cooking methods you should be fine. I am sure France has lots of different versions of beef stew.............

In italy skip the pizza and eat the lasagne or cannelloni.

In Germany stay away from the strudel etc.

I am sure you are worrying unnecessarily. Just relax and have a great holiday.

Thanks for your reply and suggestions...

The problem is when I go into a restaraunt, and I can't understand what "DerfargleSnitzel" is, or, for that matter, anything else, it's bound to get dicey.

Once it's served, I shouldn't have much difficulty figuring out if I can eat it........

Do you have a smart phone? If so will it work in Europe? If not perhaps you could rent a phone while you are there or get one of those through a way phones. If you can get access to the internet you can look things up on google to see what they are before you order them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
