Trying To Have Patience

Recommended Posts

I had my consult on Dec. 29th, my dietician and psych evaluation on Jan 18th and I'm having a hard time finding the patience waiting on my dr's office to send off to the insurance company. I am trying to sit still and shut up and wait as I know that this can be a time consuming process. However, I don't even leave Christmas presents alone as I can not wait for anything. How long did it take for your doctors office to gather all your paperwork and submit it? How long afterwards did it take for your insurance to get back to you? I have BCBS Illinois.

You will need lots of patience post-op as u might not feel any restriction till several fills later over a period of a few months .. Band land is notorious for needing patience so use this time waiting for answers to get used to it a little more. Nothing to stop you getting into a routine now of eating and exercising that will help you post band. Might make the time go quicker for you while u wait for answers .. good luck :)

I just found out the doctor office submitted the paperwork to the insurance on Friday. I thought they would have told me. woot.gif

I started working out 5 days per week at my works gym. Resistance 2x and treadmill for 30 mins 5x per week. I have also started drinking 60 grams of Protein daily in the form of a shake. I'm trying to find food and liquid items that keep me feeling full longer. Just from that I have lost 10 lbs in the month of January.

The thing that took the longest for me was to get the report on the psych eval to the surgeon. I think it took 2 months plus. I did the eval after my 2nd nut appt, so it did not hold anything up, but you may want to ask your surgeon's office if they have everything they need. Then you know who to call to keep the process moving.

The good news is, I have BCBS-IL, and once they had everything, it was approved within 48 hours. I called them daily, because I had no patience either. I think my daily call to them kept it at the top of the stack as well. As soon as I heard from BCBS, I called the surgeon to confirm, and they scheduled surgery at that time!

Hang in there, and just keep in contact with everyone handling everything. Remember that every day brings you closer to band day!

Hang in there

I too have BCBS-IL and I called them everyday sometimes twice a day. I was denied twice and stayed on them and the Dr's office until I was approved. I called them so much one lady told me "once the paperwork goes to the Dr and he/she approves/denies it WE WILL CALL YOU!" HAHAHA But guess what? I still continued to call and then 2 days later they (BCBS) called me to tell me i was approved and they would be faxing paperwork to my dr's office...So stay on top of it....

WOW 48 hour turn around with BCBS-IL. That would be super nice. But I'm not that type of a lucky gal. I'm more like GermaineF and will have to call them and play "I was just wondering" senerio.

Oh I did call them everyday!!! Their first response for me was the same "we'll call you when it's approved". I told them that if they'd just approve it they wouldn't have to hear from me again, otherwise I'll call to check in about the same time tomorrow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
