Has anyone had any problem with emotions, crying in particular? I am one month out and for the past 2 weeks have been having a very difficult time controlling my emotions. Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had issues like that about five months post op, but I attribute mine to losing my mom, now I can cry at a puppy comercial. Your crying could be caused by hormone levels. The nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office (whos is a woman and banded) said that it can take awhile for our bodies to adjust to weight loss. She said that our bodies are still creating enough hormones for our heavier weights, and it takes awhile to even out. Also being fairly newly banded, you are making a huge physical and emotional change, it can be very hard on a person. Hang in there, hopefully it gets better, but if not, please don't hesitate to see someone. Good luck to you on your journey :)

I had a time right after surgery where I cried. For me I went through a period of "mourning" for the food I wasn't going to be able to eat anymore and having regrets about what I did. My doctor did warn me that it might happen. It went away once I got the hang of how I'm supposed to eat AND the weight started coming off. It does get better!

Exercise can help lift the mood, i have days still where things seem a little pointless and i feel like crying but i get on my bike and go for a ride and by the time i get home i feel much better and dont even think of the down mood i was in before i went. Maybe go for a brisk walk to ease the blues.

Dont forget its winter in most places and some of us will be under the effects of the time of year where a lot of people feel like you do. I am sure you will feel happier once you get your routine back and start to really see the band do its work. I used to cry a lot more before i had the band fitted so the odd days of it now are far far less :)

You're not alone. Reading your post made me cry. I don't know if I"m mourning food loss or what. But I feel like 'what the hell did I get myself into.' My family, of course, eats regular foods, sometimes with the kids we drive through McDonalds, I just roll the window down to air out the smell, and cry. I feel like if you have not had the band you can not understand it. I tell my fiancee- try imaginig you can't drink soda anymore, you can't eat all the fast food you used to love, people EXPECT you to be losing weight fast, I have never felt so abslutely hungry in all my life, etc, etc, etc. I finally told my honey last night "you have no idea how much I cry lately." Maybe it will pass, IDK, but you are not alone!

Yes, I will find tears just rolling down my face for no reason. I do not feel regretful at all, and I am actually doing okay with food so far, no real temptations. I have started to exercise and I will say that it helps. I don't know. We just need to be patient. I am sure it is normal - keep your eye on the prize. I appreciate everyone's response. It's nice to get other's opinions. : )

I am going through this- I am mourning like I've lost a family member. Last night- superbowl was the worst. I cooked for 3 hours and wasn't able to enjoy it. I ended up in the rec/media room alone watching a movie on HBO. Every time I heard commotion upstairs I just reminded myself that priority needed to be the movie. I did overeat- but nothing like I would have in the past, not even 1/4 of the amount that would provide satiety in the past. Almost 7 weeks out with 4cc's I am terrible hungry but have a fill scheduled today. I'm not expecting a miracle but my fingers are crossed that this gets me closer to the green zone.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
