can't stop eating

Recommended Posts

I'm so down and disappointed with myself. Every morning when I wake up I tell myself today will be different. I eat small and health foods all day long. Then 8:00pm or later comes and I just can't control myself. I eat like I did before the band, way to much and the worst food you can image. Last night it was 10:00 pm and I ate 2 fried chicken fingers and 2 chocolate Cookies. I'm talking about the cookies that are big as a saucer.

Then I get so depressed. I know the only reason that I haven't gained lots of weight back is that I exercise everyday. I'm at 3.3c with my fills with a 4.c band. I'm not sure a fill will help with my eating at night. I think it's just in my head that I'm hungry at night. But I can't stop it. This is driving me crazy.

FIrst of all, it looks like you are doing just GREAT with your weight loss. You are going to have to make it a point to not have that stuff in your house if you are too tempted to eat it.

I can not have any junk in my house or I would be doing the same thing. Get those Cookies out, and don't tell me so and so shouldn't suffer without them, because Cookies aren't healthy for anyone.

You can do this, you just have to put it in your mind too.

Excellent that you are working out too!!! You are SO close to Goal!!! THROW THE JUNK OUT!!! :)

I don't keep stuff in the house I shoudln't eat. Right now, I live alone (hubs is in the Navy) so it's easy. Last weekend, my Mom came for a garden show here in town. I told her, before she came, if she wanted anything like chips or Cookies or even Cereal, she'd have to bring it herself.

Now, I did buy pastries for Breakfast for her, but I bought apple, which she likes, but I don't. I did make a big roast and noodles for dinner on Sunday (when Dad came to get her), but I know noodles + my band = argh! So I ate sparingly.

If you have a husband or kids in the house, and they insist on junk, buy junk you don't like. Around me, if Hubs eats junk, it's Cookies with coconut or ginger (blech) or funyuns (double blech), because there's no temptation for me there.

It's possible to win over junk food :) Sometimes, you just gotta be creative ;)

:hungry:I am 6 weeks post-op today, and have totally NO restriction. The only problems I have is eating too much and too fast then I get the old chest pain. LUCKILY I get my first fill 2/21...YEAHHH. I have last 24 pounds since surgery. So I hope this fill will help with my eating. I too can do really good all day and then night time rolls around and I want to eat everything in sight.:think Unforntunately, my DH has to have some of the things around to make his lunches with, but he is willing to try something different to take the temptation out of the house. May have to put it all under lock and key and he ONLY have the key. Lets all pray for GOD to give us the will power we need..

My hubby only eats what I buy, but when I stop buying the things he likes to munch on he will start asking where it is as if hinting I should pick some up the next time I go to the store. :tired I tried switching from white rice to brown and he bitched. And if I cook a smaller (smaller=normal) portion for him instead of his usual (his usual=2 normal portions) then he starts complaning he's still hungry after the meal and goes looking around for some munchies. (its a never ending loop isnt it! :) ) This is going to be a big step if I get banded, and I have a feeling he might be running back to his mommies house to eat because that stuff isn't coming in the house after I'm banded. I'm not going to spend all that money just to sabatoge myself in the end. :clap2:

So many of us have the same night time grazing compulsions. And I agree, empty the house of anything that your hands can find that will sabotage your success. I think it was Kare that said she bought two small lockable boxes (one for the cupboard and one for the fridge) which hold things she cannot allow around herself because of temptation. She gave the key to her son. Kryssa was certain her hubby wouldn't agree to getting the junk food out of the house, but to her surprise he agreed to keep and eat any junk food out of the house.

Maybe its just a phase. It's so easy to trick the brain. After several times of having the urge, and then finding nothing to appease it with, maybe it will stop. Let's hope.

You can do it. I t takes time and first off, you have to break your old eating habbits. that can be tuff try one or two first week then work from there. weight loss is not easy if it was every body would be thin.

the key is Exercising keep that up! GIRL!!!!! and drink more water! next time you feel that loss of control coming on slam a large glass of Water then eat some thing healthy take it slow.... you will get there it takes time.JOHNQ:clap2:

Thanks everyone, I agree that keeping the junk food out of the house would sure help. The problem with that is my Dh will eat nothing but meat, bread, potatoes and sweets. His health shows it to. He is 330lbs and has high blood pressure. One of my secret reasons for have the band surgery, was I thought if I showed him I could loose the weight with the band he would decided to have it done. That has not worked. I do not buy junk food. I've ask him not to buy it. That didn't work, so I told him If you must buy the junk you could at least hide it out of my sight. I don't think he's trying to sabotages my weight loss, he is just use to eating what and when ever he wants.

One thing I've found, personally, if it's around I'll find a reason to eat it. I just keep those "bad" foods out of stock. If for some reason I do want a cookie, I buy ONE at the bakery and snack on it. Not the best band food but if I don't have that one occassionally, I'll eat a dozen...Good luck to you.

If you are trully hungry, try staggering your meals so you eat later in the evening perhaps? I usually try and have my last meal about six or seven at night to get me through till bed time.

If you have to eat something, why not keep something thats healthy and filling around and try to eat that first?

These are just suggestions, you likely have thought of em. Please don't shoot me.

First of all, congratulations on maintaining your weight despite the struggle at night. Don't forget what a HUGE accomplishment that is. I have the same problem with night time eating. Here are a few things that I've tried that have helped me most (not all) nights:

-Paint your nails. Have you ever tried to get chips out of a bag with wet nails? It's impossible.

-Take a bath and give yourself a facial.

-If you'd rather be in front of the tv, take up cross stitch or needlepoint. You have to keep clean hands while you're stitching or the project gets dirty. Trust me - I know... there is a half finished, cheetle stained picture in my sewing box.

Good luck! :)

Hi Nickie,

Your problem is the biggest challenge of almost all bandsters since we are all more open at night and our bands dont behave in the evening! Whats the deal with that?

LOL . I have this problem too and it doesnt get better unless food is no longer the priority in the evening. Its not hunger really. ITs boredom and the food is there afterall and tastes good! I formed an addiction to Peanut Butter during the time I was recovering from plastic surgery because it was the easiest thing to reach for in the cupboard that I didnt have to make anything. I could just get a spoon and stick it in the jar.

Heres my strategy to get through the evening hours:

I drink two cups of tea with Splenda and some FF cream

Dont keep too much crap in the house

(I have two children and this is hard to do sometimes!!)

Have lots of evening Snacks that you can indulge in that are not too bad either sugar or caloric wise. SOme examples:

60 calorie fat free pudding

SF Jello ready made

string cheese

100 calorie popcorn bags

A piece of 35 calorie bread toasted with SF jam

100 calorie cookie or graham cracker bag

SF chocolate bar

Sometime I will even have two of these off the list.

If all else fails, go to sleep!! LOL

Thanks everyone, for your suggestion. It's like DAWG said i have tryed most of your suggestion already. Coming here to LBT and disscussing things with all of you really helps me so much. I don't have a very good support system at home. You all give me the motivation and re-inforcement that I need to keep on the right track.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
