Tummy Problems With Protein Shakes- On Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

sad.pngIs anyone having stomach troubles with the Protein Shakes? I can only stomach one per day and its giving me (sorry this is gross....) loose stools, almost diarrhea. My son says Protein will go right through you....which is what is happening. What can I do? I am losing weight steadily but I don't like having this problem continuously. Any suggestions ?

I found a way that I could drink it, like hot chocolate! boil some Water put in your Protein Drink. I love the vanilla, sprinkle some cinammin on top, yummy. I could only drink 1 out of the 4 that I was supposed to. The nurse told me that there were some people who couldn't even drink one. and I still lost weight. I think because of the drink you will be getting loose stools, I would drink more water so it does get out of the body quicker. Good luck!

Try a different brand of Protein Shake. Some of them literally go right through me. Vitamin Shoppe sells several brands of shakes in single serving sizes so you try them. I had good luck with Jay Robb Protein.< /p>

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I am using the ones that the surgeon's office makes us use, called Suncoast Bariatrics. They are made of whey Protein, 22 grams per shake, and 111 calories. You mix them with Water pre-op. After the operation, you can mix them with skim or low fat milk. I will call them on Monday to see what they recommend.
