Encouraging Words, Please

Recommended Posts

So, It's been 1 year 8 months since banding. About 4 months ago, I started to have some issues not keeping anything down, went for tests to make sure...ALL is good. However, they had to do an unfill for the tests and I still don't have the money to go back to get a fill ($150 each time since I'm self pay). I've gained 18lbs back and I'm feeling awful about it. To the point that I noticed I went back to all my old eating habits :( I know that I can get back on track, just need some encouraging words from anyone out there that has been in a similar situation. Anyone?

Yep, same problem that I had. complete unfill and it took 4 months to get back up to a good fill. In the mean time I gained weight and ate just like I did prior to banding. Be thankful everything is ok and this is just a little set back. I know exactly how you feel. Honestly, I am thankful I had the problem. It giave me so much more respect for the band and now I pay closer attention to not screwing this thing up. I used to think PB and vomiting was ok and just normal. now I do everything possible to make sure I dont vomit or PB. Everything will be fine. I hope this helps.

I'm sorry you're dealing with a weight gain, but try not let it get you down. Your priority now needs to be to figure out how to save the $150 for a fill, even if it means nickle and diming it for a while-- you have a band for a reason and if it's not working for you because it's empty, of course you're likely to regain! I think if you put a plan in place for the "in the meantime", you will have a greater sense of control and accomplishment and something to work toward.

If my band was empty, I'd be gaining too-- not because I'm a bad person or a failure, but because without the band I'm incredibly hungry and I eat larger portions. That's why I had to have the dang thing in the first place, and it didn't magically change me (or you!).

You can do this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
