Gym=No Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Since November 11th, I have been losing about 4 pounds a week on average. A week ago, I joined the gym. I have gone a total of 6 times since then. This is the first week I have not lost ANYTHING since surgery. It really makes me upset. I thought starting to work out would help with my weight loss but it seems to be doing the exact opposite. Are there any medical reasons for this? Am I gaining muscle maybe? Retaining Water? As you will see in my previous post, I have been eating more on gym days because I felt like I needed the extra calories because I would be burning calories. But maybe that's not the right thing to do. I have not once gone over my calorie limit either. I'm taking off from the gym tomorrow. I'm hoping when I weigh myself on Monday, I will have beat this little plateu. If I haven't, I'm going to have to do something. Sooo frustrating! I feel like I'm busting my butt at the gym for nothing :( Oh and I know some people say that when the scale isn't moving, you are most likely losing inches. Well, I measured myself a couple of days ago for the first time in weeks, and I had only lost 1 inch in my hips. No loss in my waist. I guess I just want to know if there is a reasonable explanation for this so I can stop fretting. Thanks!!

Same thing happened to me. I quit exercising a few days ago and have already lost a couple pounds since then. We know we should exercise but it is frustrating to work so hard and not lose!

I think that you should just give your body a few weeks to adjust to the new routine. It could be that your body isn't used to the increased calorie burning and is just holding on to the weight. You may find that in a week or two things might improve

Remember that muscle weighs more than fat. However, the biggest culprit is Water. By working out, you are tearing down muscle and rebuilding it. During this process, muscles will retain water. Give it some time - probably 4-5 weeks. Your body will adjust and then you'll be surprised at how it will begin to come off, even if you have to take a week or two off from exercising.

A pound of muscle is the same as a pound of fat. You would not gain a noticeable amount of muscle in such a short amount of time. When you first drastically up your exercise routine, the body takes a few weeks to adjust. The muscles retain more Water.< /p>

I remember reading your post about eating more, but can't remember the actual calorie amounts. If you are very low, you may even need to up your calories. I'm guessing that in another week or two, your body will be ready to lose again. Just keep with it and reap the benefits of exercise.

Don't give up on the gym. You will start to loose again & it is worth it. When we change things up it takes our bodies a couple of weeks to get on board.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
