So Frustrated!!!!

Recommended Posts

So I started this journey on 5/25/11 went through all the classes and seminars, then I was told I had to take additional therapy for O.C.D and I had to take 2-4 sessions for 4-6 months well I finally was cleared on 1/16/12 to have my surgery and at that time I scheduled my surgery date which was 2/7/12 but On Monday I did my pre-op surgery and paid my program fee, I got a call yesterday from my surgen stating I have to post pone the surgery because my hemoglobin is 7.3 and I need to bring it up to atleast 10 before I can have the surgery. So he emailed me a game plan on what I should do and his game plan is going to take another 4 MONTHS! I swear I have been that one patient that everything goes wrong with prior to surgery, now I am kind of feeling like a circus because I have to jump through hoops to get help with getting healthy. go figure!

Sounds like u are jumping through as many hoops as life throws at you, it is a real pain but u are better off being in the best condition for the surgery as u wont be able to eat much after particularly on the liquids post-op and with a low blood count u could cause yourself even more problems. I know all delays are disappointing but better to get it right the first time than have problems post op. Did your surgeon give any indication as to why your count was low ?

yes, I have anemia I didn't think it would take 4 months to get my levels to 10 seeing that my levels are only 7.3 but I guess I was wrong.

So It didn't take 4 months like I thought I was just cleared on 3/16 for surgery again and I should be making my surgery date on Monday. I have everything completed though all my insurance approvals and everything I am excited I just hope this time I am going to get the surgery and nothing else comes up. I am excited and so ready to have a summer long of getting healthy and working out. I even got into some classes at the gym to make sure I am doing everything in my power to have this work. Long time waiting but there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
