Does This Really Work

Newme.... Of course you are getting negative feed back.... think about it.... everything has a "negative" feed back... Heck.. Aspirin has negatives..

As far as the band.... I love my band. I started at 5'2.5" and 223lbs. Today i'm two years out and i at at a steady 145lbs. My BMI went from 40.8 to 25.7 I am looking into getting a TT this month. My husband says i don't need it, but what does he know...lol I started this journey and i want to finish it. the TT will do that for me.

Living in Louisiana....The 5th Fattest state in america.... i know people who have had all the types of WLS. Goods and bad with both. I have had friends who have had the GP and gained it all back, and one that is a thin as a rail and can't gain weight at all. The sleeve.... i have had two great friends that have had it and both are doing great. And of course the LB... 90% positive, The last place i worked we had about 10 people and all are dong GREAT. My sister in law is one of the people who have not lost anything... in fact she has gained weight and a cuz that had it done and has only lost a few ...BUT they don't fellow the rules and my sister in law has no fill in her band at all. She had it taken out. She loves to eat..... and my Cuz.. well she is just lazy.

What i would say negative about the band... is the hassle of the fills. Going back and forth to the dr. to get fill is not fun (they don't hurt). Where with the other two... you don't have too. BUT the other two are FOREVER....

My band is not...

Good luck with your choice and i wish you all the best.

Because my husband and i are home alone now that our two boys are on there own, we eat out a lot.

If i make a suggestion..... I too use to have a hard time when eating out. Not anymore, what i do now is... when the server comes to take my order i tell him/her .... When you bring my food, bring a go box at the same time. At this time the server will look at you like your an alien....lol. I then put away all by what i know i should eat. I never go back to the box. Then depending on what i ordered, i have lunch for the next couple days. Hope this helps you.

I do the same thing. I try to order a meal that has meat, veggies and a starch. Then when they bring the meal, I ask for an extra appetizer plate. I put what I am going to eat on the smaller plate, then I ask for them to wrap up the rest when they come back to check on the meal. You don't feel like you want to finish all the food if it is out of sight! Out of sight out of mind!

I'm scheduled scheduled in March and i'm an RN. I chose to had lapband because its less invasive and has less complications. I know people with bypass and yes they have lost the weight but have also gained it back. In the long run I rather have something reversible than something permanently done to my body. What happens if you get sick once your stomach is rerouted or cut out there is no fix for that. My friend had the sleeve she went from over 250 lb to 110 lb in 3 months she stayed in the hospital and almost died. She told me she wish she knew about the band, she thinks she would have preferred it over the sleeve. But she did not know about the band and the Dr said with her bp uncontrollable she was going to die. As of today she can hardly eat and vomits al the time, has weakness she cant even work. So the decision is actually up to you, this is your life nothing is a guarantee. Goodluck on your decision.

How sad for your friend. I wish her Godspeed and good luck. I agree, it has been great for me, too! I never wanted the gastric bypass as I heard bad things about it. I heard the balloon is good, but only lasts for about 6 months and then has to be removed. My PCP said her friend gained all her weight back after she had the balloon removed. It is a tool and has to be worked with as in all weightloss!

I was originally scheduled to have gastric bypass in June 2010, and at the last minute backed out. I just couldn't justify re-routing and permanently damaging healthy organs. I thought the Lap-Band was a much more logical step because it is 100% reversible should something go wrong. I figured if the Lap-Band didn't work, then I'd consider something more drastic such as the Sleeve. It just made sense to me.

I was banded on Jan. 6 and have already lost 38 pounds. So far, I'm thrilled with my band! My only regret is not doing this years sooner. I'm totally happy with my decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
