Reeling Through Some Thoughts...

Recommended Posts

So I periodically skim through the topics and most of the time I can find something about what I'm wondering about. Well, I am getting closer to the end of my 6 month supervised diet. Which all in itself is ridiculous I have spent my whole life being overweight so let's tack on another 6 months right? I have 3 more weigh ins. My weight has always fluctuated to begin with so I have gained 5-10lbs since I have started which isn't huge because I'm on the lower side with my bmi. My bmi is around 37 I don't really have any co morbidities. I have had some high labs and borderline hypertension. I'm just hoping that if I am going to go through all this then they won't say in the end your not fat enough or not sick enough?! I guess when they say you are your own worst enemy it's so true! anyone else have these conflicting thoughts because they are on the lower bmi side and don't have any major health issues?

You should know your insurer's EXACT criteria for approval and whether you have met them. BMI, comorbidities, and expected results of supervised diet! Call them!

I know what their requirements are. What I'm saying is I'm worried that I'm not big enough or don't have enough health issues. I can't really lose a lot on the six month supervised diet because I'm already in the lower category.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
