Throat Feels Like Its Closing When I Eat To Much.

Recommended Posts

I was banded 6 weeks ago and for the most part it has been great. Much easier than I had expected. I think it is weird though that when I eat to much it feels like my throat closes and I feel like I can't swallow or I may choke. I am not sure if this is common or not, however it keeps me eating small amounts which is a good thing. I took my family to the diner tonight and I ordered a cheese omlet. After about 6 bites of the omelate I felt like I would choke if I kept eating, I have not had anything stuck, because for the most part I am still sticking to soft foods. I tried eating some chicken from the crockpot and a meatball last weekend and they go down but feel heavy and make me feel nauseous. I go to the Dr. for my first fill on 2/1 and I am scared I won't be able to eat at all after because I am not really eating a whole lot now.

You are still healing and restriction you are feeling now is as a result of the swelling from your surgery. Your dr will discuss all of the things you have described and decide whether you need a fill yet or not. Good luck.

Yea- i was banded dec 22 and not yet eating the hardcore foods, eggs tuna etc, no real meat. But back on my Probiotics cause with me, it makes all the difference in the world. If the plumbing is working- I eat my right portions with out any discomforts. I was amazed of the difference.

I was banded in November. I often have the same feeling but it can come after just having a few small bites of something, whereas other times I might be able to eat much more than usual without any problems.

I was tightened for the first time just before Christmas and I have less restriction now than I did before. Because before you get tightened you band is filled with air, when you get tightened they take the air out and put saline in. Its all very strange.

Anyway, your doctor will have all of the answers for you when you go to see him next. Being tightened may actually help for you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
