I am on day two of the Pre-Op diet and I tell you that first day is sooooooo hard but it was a little better today the trick is to not think about food, I know I know it's hard but I kept busy I am just worried about when I get home and I am not so busy. That is when it get's really hard but I am making it with a lot of support. Did anyone else have similar issues or what problems did you have if any?

**Couting down the days**

Pre-op is hard because you're on a seriously restricted diet but aren't banded yet so no stomach restriction. I was hungry ALL the time.

I was just banded on 1/6 and am still waiting for my first fill. However, it's still easier now than it was pre-op. (my surgeon still has me liquids)

Hang in there, it's worth it.

I am on day 6 of a 14 day shakes and bar diet (800-900 cal). I am so hungry I could chew my arm off. I agree with MIS73 - I am hungry all the time. I have read that it gets better after the 3rd day, but I have not found that to be the case for me. I do go to the gym almost every day and do an hour on the treadmill or the elliptical and I find that I am really hungry after that. The hardest part for me is bedtime. I hate going to bed hungry so I find it hard to get to sleep. Only 8 more days - I can do anything for 8 days, right?

Still on the lovely liquid diet as well. Surgery is Friday so there is an end in sight!! Yes, I have been hungry but honestly, not as much as I thought I would be. My theory is that my taste buds have died of boredom ;)

I make my shakes with plenty of ice, a little fruit and some Water and they are very much like a smoothie. Therefore, it takes me an average of 1 hour to finish. ESPECIALLY in this cold weather!

BTW, I am in our Lower Level right now as my family eats chicken, baked potatoes and carrots. And yes, I cooked it. Smelled so darn yummy! I have found it is better for me to on a totally different level when it is dinner time :)

You will make it thorugh this time and really, I am kind of glad I had to do this liquid diet. I think it will make it easier to stay on track post op....at least that is what I keep telling myself!

I am on day two of liquid. My starvation moments have been up and down. I have engrossed myself in other things, like I have done all the cleaning I can think of. I am a member of a 24 hour gym, so for the last three days, I go but I attend very late, so I can come home shower and bed. It is really hard the first few days. I even reduce my television, because so many things are centered around food. I spend a lot of time looking at my "before" pics and they keep me motivated. This cocoon is worth it, I really want this to go well.

Totally agree about TV and food! Goodness, I never noticed until on this liquid diet how true that was! I suggest DVR so you can fast forward though all of those commercials. And I went to bed early a couple of nights just because I was hungry. And was kind of being crabby to the hubby...or so he claims ;)

I am on day one of my liquid pre-op diet. I have surgery on Tuesday. Dr told me 3 high Protein low calorie shakes. I went to nutrition store and they gave me Isopure drinks, it's not a shake, has 40 g protein 160 calories. Has anyone else tried them? Should I have got shakes instead? The shakes were higher calories.

I was @ the doctor's today for my final approval and there is an enormous amount of misinformation, between the doctor and the nurse. (Go figure). My surgery is Feb 7. Now they say I can add yogurt, but, one of them said limit dairy. I explained that the Protein Shakes I make are milk based. So, I am on info overload. Additionally, I was supposed to find no sodium broth, not low sodium. My friends/family that have already done this surgery provide much more info. than the hospital performing the procedure. Example: they have me scheduled for bariatric group on the day of my surgery. They make me nervous because I have to remind them of too many blunders.

I was told the point is to drink liquids/shakes. The liquid process is for the liver to shrink, so that they can perform the surgery more effectively. Additionally, to train you to survive off of liquids post-op. I was told that even though you are on a liquid diet you should still try to drink as close to 1,200 calories as possible. so 3 shakes at 160=480cal.

And last thing they also told me that I can have some limited things; like vegetables (once a day), yogurt, cottage cheese. oatmeal, everything has to be plain. no butter, seasonings, Salad Dressing, sugar, etc. I got a lot of info from the internet also. Search "shrink liver"

Lastly, NO soda or caffeine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
