Before my surgery I would go through 3 or 4 12-packs a week. I gave it up cold turkey the day of my surgery and haven't had one in almost 4 years. I don't miss it one bit!

I too was an addict. I had a sundrop or a coke in my hands all the time. I stopped cold turkey in July of 2010 and havent had one since. Believe it or not, I dont even think about them now. Its like they dont even exist. When I go to a restaurant and they ask me what I want to drink, it doesnt even occur to me to order a coke. As much as I loved them before, they actually have been the easiest thing for me to let go. My plan is not to ever drink one again. If I tried one, I am afraid it would start the cravings for them again. I replaced the soda addiction with hot green tea. I love drinking hot tea-there are lots of different flavored teas and they say that green tea is helpful in losing weight. My advice is cut them out completely!!

I drink a soda per day (am trying to quit) and still have plenty of restriction. I don't drink it with meals. It does make me burp like crazy.

I lived on Diet Coke that's what caused the err Belly look.

I gave them up years ago. One time I took a sip, and spit it out. It was terrible !

It tasted worse then cough Syrup.< /p>

So were all not missing anything.

It's amasing ! just like learning to smoke, and choking on those things, yrt we still try,

and then to B.S. ourselves into thinking that it's really good stuff.

Eventually the brain believes it !

I am post op 3 weeks but have a question. I have made the choice to go no soda and am currently on my fourth week off of it. I am wondering though about a friend who is fixing to have surgery. She is a soda addict and is wondering if it is possible to have a small glass of soda after lapband???

My nutritionist suggested that if I absolutely HAD to try it, to pour it over ice and let it sit for a bit. I tried it and honestly, it tasted awful and gave me heartburn. Some people don't have any problem with an occasional soda or beer, but they really recommend that you don't drink carbonated beverages.

I don't remember where I read this and I keep forgetting to ask my doctor, but I recently read that soda might actually be a cause of band erosion. I will write it down and ask my dietician the next time I see her and post if I hear anything. It scared me enough not to even mess with it though!

I unfortunately work where there is a fountain pepsi machine in our breakroom. I too was drinking about 5-6 diet Dr. Pepper's in a day. I've actually given it up two weeks before surgery and haven't craved it at all. Funny though because I got conflicting info from my surgeons office. They say NO CARBONATED beverages ever' date=' however one of the nurses who happened to have gastric bypass surgery said "there are no studies indicating that it has an effect on the bands, but the phosphates in soda bind to your Calcium on a cellular level so the heart thinks it doesn't have Calcium to pump and it pulls it out of your bones- thats why we have a pandemic of osteoparosis." REALLY? I was shocked that she would even indicate that it "might" be ok from a lapband standpoint to drink a soda! I'm staying off of it, because I'm a junkie when it comes to soda. I've given it up and do not want to even start![/quote']

Yes, caffeine takes calcium away from bones. That is why we are told no caffeine when you are pregnant. coffee and other caffeine drinks or foods will do the same. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
