Sweetie, everyone's going to share with you that they felt the same way before their surgery...there have been lots of cold feet pitter pattering around on these forums. :-)

I'm still not sure I'm doing to do this...just wanted to say I've had a few surgeries in my time, some that were way longer and riskier than lap band...and you're going to do just fine. It's not as scary as it seems. The nurses will treat you like gold and everyone will take wonderful care of you.

Big hugs!!

I can honestly say that this has been the best thing I have done for myself. From the health perspective, look how much better off you will be having the surgery and losing weight. Maybe you don't have any signifcant problems now, but down the road obesity will kill you. So I can rejoice in the fact that I have taken the steps to become a healthier me. I also appreciate the little things. Like tying my shoes with no problem, sitting on my work chair on the highest level and being able to cross my legs! Oh, and buying new clothes has become a favorite past time! But maybe the last isn't a good thing!

AMEN holly dolly, I was going to type the same thing. the surgery is not that bad and it is normal to have cold feet when having a surgery but think about what will happen to you if you dont have the surgery. try asking your dr for something to calm your nerves and stay positive, try writing all the great things down that you are going to be subjected to because of the surgery. write down goals like sexier underwear, great looking legs, skinny jeans ahhhhh the skinny jeans LOL just try to stay positive and think great things not negative ones. god bless and good luck

Hi Flaquita 24! It will be fine. I had heart surgery just 2 months before and I did fine. The staff was great and anesthesiologist are so advanced now! You are the weight as I was when I went for my band last week on Thursday as of yesterday I weighed 229 pounds! I am so happy that I did it! You can do this, it will make your life so much more enjoyable in so many ways!

Flaquita, this is absolutely normal. You're going to have a major life-changing operation; I would be more concerned if you weren't nervous. I haven't been banded yet, but have had other surgeries, and as I've said before I think the worst part is the waiting. You will do fine with the surgery. I'm sure your surgeon has done this many times before, and the anesthesiologist is there solely to make sure you don't have any problems. I have had my major freak-out moments too, but like Holly Dolly said, I could either risk the slim chance of complications with surgery or face a future where I would definitely die slowly and miserably. I watched my dad do that, and I don't want to put my family through it. And I know that God will be watching you and taking care of you as well. You'll be fine. :)

Flaquita we both know we didn't go through all the preop hoops including the dreaded sleep STUDY to quit now! Im scared too! TERRIFIED in fact. My surgery is before yours, Jan 30. If I can go through with this (never had surgery before, big baby, did I mention I was scared?) YOU CAN DO IT!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
